Android app stopped detecting and uploading images
Hello.
I am using the android app on a galaxy note 8. Initially the app started during backup, but the year was incorrect in the application (it was sowing proper month of 1970, but in the server it was right), so I stopped it to check if everything was right. Now, the app is not uploading anymore. I tried clearing the app data and logging again but the problem persists. If I try to select the folders to backup it almost never detects any folder. Sometimes it shows 47 folders, but more of the than not it shows noting. In any case, it doesn't upload anything. The notification always shows 0 of 12k uploads.

The year and date incorrect is from the asset itself has incorrect date format in its exif or file info
Can you elaborate on the app not uploading anymore?
Would you mind taking the screenshot of the backup page?
The date was correct, it was the year only who was incorrect
And in the server everything is correct

That has been like that for hours

Apagar means turn off
Try turn off background and forground backup
Then restart the app
And then turn it on?
How do I restart it? Just force close?
OK, now (I didn't did anything) has finished scanning my library and it's uploading it (I guess) maybe my library was too huge and the app becomes unresponsive?
I'm not sure if it is actually uploading anything... It's stuck at 155

The foreground backup would automatically running backup when you open the app, so if you have background backup on. You can turn off foreground backup. Since if background backup is running, the foreground won't be interfering with the background backup. Background backup won't update the UI, i.e the backup number count when it is running since it is on another thread
Does it make sense?
I saw in the log there is a message about failed to acquired lock. It might be a bug, and I am not sure which operation you have done to cause it to happen
I followed the instructions and the backup count (the one previously showing 12150 and 150) is now back at 0
How can I deactivate foreground?
I though backup was needed for the background to work
Here is the option for foreground

Background and foreground are two different mechanism
when I first developed the app, there is no background backup
so it was a convenience to auto start backup when open the app
This is my main problem though. Can't select anything almost never

thus the reason for the option,
remove "cam"
do you see anything?
That is an attempt to reduce the work of the app showing things. One time I typed DCIM and it started showing something. Now I was trying with cam. If I remove it I see nothing too
Hmm
Ah no, now I see something
Seems the mechanism to make it work is type something and then delete it
So we are planning to fix that scanning issue on Android, somehow on iOS it works as expected and on Android it takes a long time to show the result

Do you have a camera album?
Somehow the first item (recent) has more elements than all the other combined
Recents is the combine albums, it contains all the videos and photos on your phone
Yes, and that makes sense, but why can't I see as many in the all others?
Is it normal to have 0 in the number of unique elements?

It is not normal
It is worth mention that my gallery may contain something weird or corrupt or something. I tried other sync app previously (photo sync) and it was also able to sync some hundred photos and then got stuck with some video, and never worked again
And you have two different camera folders?
maybe a UI glitch and let you choose two, can you remove one
Yes, some on the phone, some on the external SD card, and some random created by random camera apps
if you remove one, does the unique number change?
How should I remove it?
You mean a photo? Or a pholder?
Folder?
the folder in the selected result
tap on the name should remove it

This happens ebery time I fully close the app

Yes, but it is disabled

That is foreground

Here is background
Do I have to deactivate both?
If you have in the process of choosing album, then you can deactive both
Toggling the first one allows me to click the button, and the sewlction is empty again
when you want the app to auto backup your new photo, then enable background
With your amount of videos and photos, it might take a while to show the album, this is a known issue
I have to try to sleep a baby, will try later
It already shows hundreds of elements, but doesn't seem to know how to upload them

Maybe all I have to do is let it run overnight
Gonna try that
What the cloud with the crossing line mean? Not backed up yet, or not selected for backup?
On the device and not yet backup
But there are lot of pictures not selected for backup that appear with that icon, and I guess they will never be backed up, so... Does it make sense in that case?
If the photo are in the album that you are selected, it will show with the cloud and cross over icon. Which means it is on the local device
But it is showing hundreds of photos that are not part of the folder that I selected
Can you help double check?
During night it uploaded 0 images
Every time I close and open the app, the selected folders to backup resets
I just switched to a cloudflare tunnel instead of my local hostname, logged again, switched off the "only on wifi" switch and it is now slowly updating in the background
It has uploaded 22 so far
Really wich the upload percentage had decimals, because having to upload 3038 images it was stuck at 0% until it reached 30 uploads, wich is reported as 1%
Came back to let you know I found an error in the library we used that sometimes display the local asset in the year of 1970 for the creation time, while the modified time is correct. So that will be fixed
Wohoo! That's great. Can that have any impact in uploads?
No that is just related to showing the local asset in the app. The upload issue I still cannot reproduce
Is anything else I can do to send better logs or something? It uploaded some hundreds and then stuck
Can you disable all auto backup and use manual backup button in the app?
I want to see if that file is corrupted somehow
That's funny, no I can't
The button is disabled
remove and reinstall the app

can you take an image on the top of the page
Still somehow from time to time new pictures appear in the server

Can you choose the album you would like to backup?
Yes, but it is pointless as everytime I close the app it resets, or at least that is what the UI shows
It doesn't reset, it is saved in the local storage, that is why when you take new picture, it is uploaded in the background
the process of album selection need some improvement and bug fixing there
mostly UI state updating for really large number of asset on the device
A nice trick is that I can input the folder name, tap enter in the keyboard and despite not showing anything in the UI it was able to select one album
Now I was able to click the button to backup
Let's see how it goes
Where am I supposed to see the progress?
What progress do you want to see?
Here se go again

If it is uploading files, how many remain, etc
You can see it in the screen above
I think the main problem with the app is the refresh of the UI. Now that I followed the steps we talked about I see that the background service uploaded photos, but it was never reflected in any UI
Also, if the app is open enough time some times the settings also show data. I think it is better to show placeholders that do not look like real value s
Yes they are in different thread, unless you open the backup page (of course with the selected album UI working properly) then you will see the updated progress
Yeah this is a known issue on loading and indexing the album
it happens when the phone start to accumulate enough pictures, probably >15k

It seems to be uploading, and the button is click able again. Looks like a state management problem 😂
most of the time it doesn't have any problem, I think the problem only starting to noticeable is when you have a really large amount of asset on your device
I see. I guess my 5 year old library is not common in nowadays smartphone usage 😂. By the way, I didn't expected the upload percentage to be per archive.
After latest update, seems to be working better

How are this maths? Keep decreasing the remaining ones while saying 0% all the time? 😂
