Ancestors: Humankind Odissey controller problem

I must say that I'm a bit discouraged because every time I try to install a game there's always something wrong: often games don't start at all. Other times, as in this specific case, the input of the commands it is not recognized. The left stick of the Steam Deck doesn't work, the right one that rotates the camera view work at crazy speed. I understand that the problem it's probably due to my incompetence but at the same time I don't think the process is very intuitive for someone who is not familiar with Linux based systems.

Input problems can sometimes be solved by adding the game to Steam (which then uses Steam Input to essentially map your Deck controls to a virtual Xbox 360 controller) Other than that, this is not something Heroic can do anything about. It's up to the games to (properly) support your "controller"

That on the other hand is something we might be able to help with (provided you can send in a game log of those affected titles)

This looks like a promising lead. May I kindly ask where to find a guide that directs me step by step?

The last game I remember having this problem was Fall Guys, and before that The Long Dark. Maybe I can try reinstalling them and see if I can recover the log, but I'm not sure how to recover it.

Adding a game to Steam can be done through the game page (3-dot menu in the top-right -> Add to Steam). Make sure to do this while Steam is not running though Fall Guys needs some workarounds (detailed at https://github.com/Heroic-Games-Launcher/HeroicGamesLauncher/wiki/Fall-Guys) TLD should've just worked out of the box (provided you're using Wine-GE). It's a Unity title if I remember correctly, those usually don't have issues

The problem is, when you talk about "using Wine-GE" I have no idea what you mean. Unfortunately I've never used Linux or Wine and don't know how they work.

Alrighty, so: Linux cannot directly run apps built for Windows. That's where Wine comes in, (in basic terms) translating them so they work. This translation sometimes works perfectly, and other times it doesn't Wine is just a normal (open-source) program, so there are different versions made by different people and different releases (7.0, 7.1, etc.) of those versions. The "regular" Wine is more oriented at desktop use, while Wine-GE is more tailored for gaming Besides that, you also have Proton, which is a wrapper around Wine made by Valve. You're most likely using Proton in Heroic right now. Based on that, there's also Proton-GE TLD was, last time I checked, missing some graphical effects/transitions when ran with regular Wine. Wine-GE on the other hand displayed those just fine. I have not tested Proton versions (Wine-GE includes all patches found in Proton-GE, and Proton is generally more intended to be used inside Steam) You can check which Wine/Proton version Heroic is using in the game's settings

one thing about the steam deck and the controller in desktop mode, if you hold the three lines button for a few seconds it changes from mouse layout to gamepad layout, I didn't know this and in some games this is the difference between the left stick working or not (in mouse layout , the left stick is just the keyboard arrows I think, but in gamepad layout it's the actual left stick)

I mean this button with the three lines

if it works you hear a sound and a small message appears on the screen telling you which layout is being used to add to what commandmc said about wines, you can install Wine-GE-Proton using the Wine Manager in the sidebar of heroic, then you can set that wine version in the game settings in heroic

To update the post: I was able to add Ancestor to Steam last night and in doing so the controllers were working fine. Today I'm gonna try reinstalling The Long Dark and try to use the specs you told me.
