Redout: Enhanced Edition (from Epic Games) not starting
Message after starting is: The following component(s) are required to run this program: Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime
Tried different wine versions. Tried winetricks to install v stools2019, vc2010express and vc2008express (all aborting), tried to intall vc.redist.x86 (and 64) directly (aborting). See also log attached
Appreciate some help, how to run the game.

this game only needs vcrun2019, try this:
- delete this folder
/opt/LinuxGames1/HeroicLibrary/Wine-Praefixe/Redout Enhanced Edition to have a clean new prefix
- set Wine-GE-Proton instead of Wine staging (I used Wine-GE for my tests)

This one was also one of the few games that prompted me to install VC++ and also actually do it when I said yes.

vcrun2019 installation told me, that it aborted, but in the end redout started without problems.

Dunno if it's okay to necro a thread or if I should make a new one but I'm having the exact same issue, except vcrun2019 is in fact installed

putting this here in case someone else stumbles into it in the future - if winetricks won't do it, grab the visual c++ installer off microsoft and use the "Run EXE in Prefix" option to fully uninstall then reinstall it, it should fire up

If you switch to umu + proton-ge, it'll install vcrun2022 for you automatically
Wine-GE is rather old now (last release is almost a year ago) and thus might not work correctly. Please follow these instructions on using GE-Proton with umu instead:
1. Head to the Wine Manager in Heroic, click the "Proton-GE" tab, and install "Proton-GE-Latest"
2. Enable umu in "Settings" (Heroic sidebar) -> "Advanced" -> "Use UMU as Proton runtime"
Note: For a visual guide, see attached image
3. Head to the settings for your game(s) (icon on game card in library). In the "Wine Version" dropdown, select "Proton - Proton-GE-latest"
4. Rename your Wineprefix (path is shown in game settings), e.g. from
current-name to current-name_bak. To clarify: Rename the actual folder on your hard drive, do not change the option in the game settings.
Note: This will make game-specific configuration data (e.g. in-game settings or save files) unavailable. If this is an issue, let us know & we'll help you restore them.

I did try proton-GE and vcrun2022 earlier, neither really seemed to convince the game that vcrun is actually installed
happy to try switching the runtime to protonge and installing vcrun2022 with the run exe on prefix option and report back though

Make sure umu is enabled like in the photo above, you don't necessarily have to do it for this game since it all works but moving forward, should reduce the amount of headaches you have

For this I'm happy to confirm that Proton-GE and vcrun2022 are indeed functional, just needed to use "Run exe on prefix" on my machine cause for some reason the built-in winetricks install did work but the game refused to acknowledge its existence
