Vertical ridges on circular prints and vibration.
Hi All,
I upgraded my print head assembly to the new EVA 3.0 for my Vcore 3.1-400 and updated my extruder to a Orbiter 2.0. Now when I print I get vertical ridges in my circular prints. I've adjusted my belt tension, verified the carriage is not racking, eliminated the slicer by reprinting an existing sliced file that was printed before the upgrade.
Does anyone have a suggestion of what to look at next?

that looks like a model issue
It's not, I printed the same sliced model before the upgrade and the ridges weren't there. I'm thinking I may have tightened the belts to much and damaged the x and y steppers.
I already changed the stepper drivers to make sure that wasn't the issue as well. Ordered a couple of new motors. I'll try them swapping them in once they arrive.
I think the bearings were shot on the right CoreXY assembly. I ordered new ones once they arrive and are installed I'll provide an updated.
many slicers do little tangents NOT perfect circles. (arcs) there is even code to handle this stuff in slicers (happens in CNC router tables too) perhaps your old printer 'smothered' the fine turns.
The issue was definitely mechanical not the slicer because I used the same sliced file before and after. The before had no vertical ridges and after showed up a little while later after the upgrade. I'm going to print a new cylinder to see if the issue is resolved.

Did you have it sorted? sometimes, out of the blue my orbiter 2.0 stops extruding (seems to be related with the pressure put on the gears by the screw+spring):
While extruding 200mm of filament at a constant speed of 5mm/s and looking at the nozzle I can notice the flow suddenly reduces and then returns to normal
I just put in the new bearings and spacers. I'm going to try a print shortly.

keep us posted 🙂
Also, what's your retraction speed? I can't get mine to go over 30mm/s for some reason (not sure if it's the extruder or the driver on the EBB board)
After replacing the bearings the issue still remains but it appears to be speed dependent. The ridges are 2mm apart identical to the spacing between teeth on the belts.
Does anyone have a suggestion as to why the vertical ridges are present at 100 mm/s and not as pronounced at 50 and 25 mm/s?
At some speeds motors vibrate more. You could try to print faster to see if at eg. 150mm/s they disappear again
The vibrations are still there regardless of the speed, there are just less pronounced at lower speeds.
Do you get the same issue on straight walls?
Given it matches the belt tooth interval, you'll need to look at your x&y mechanics
I had a similar issue that turned out to be the y carriages binding on the rail...
With all belts off, I played with that issue until the gantry moved very freely in both x & y
If the printed parts that connect the gantry aren't perfectly square, it can cause the plates that mount to the y carriages to be out of square enough that the carriage binds on the rail
It could be Arc or slicer resolution related
