crossover question

I'm new to all of this and am just wondering -- I downloaded wine-crossover from the HGL and was not prompted about a free trial or payments or anything, but when I look online it says crossover is paid for software. So do I have to pay for the crossover on HGL? Is it somehow free on HGL, or is it just running on a free trial that I can't see, which will end soon? I'm confused.

Wine-crossover is not the same thing as CrossOver. The later is indeed a commercial product, but it's mostly composed of open-source software. Wine-crossover is that open-source software, packaged up in a way that it's easy-ish to use.

oh ok thank you. So in other words the wine-crossover application downloadable in HGL is just a free open-source variant of wine (and I thus don't have to pay for it) as opposed to crossover which is a commercial product that needs to be payed for but isn't associated with HGL
