Z-offset seems to be wrong every time

setting the z offset using the probe_calibrate command using the paper method seems to be ignored whenever I start a print requiring me to change it with the offset buttons until it is either not scraping or is actually laying on the bed, any ideas?

Upload your printer.cfg

What slicer are you using?

prusaslicer

Did you check the start gcode for your machine and filaments to make sure it wasn't using gcode to set the offset?

the z offset box is only for correction though isn't it?
blacksmithforlife
that's your machine's gcode - what about the filament gcode?

There's nothing there, it just has " ; filament gcode"
blacksmithforlife
If you look in your sliced gcode - does it set the offset?
blacksmithforlife
you should also set your pressure advance in the filament gcode but that's a tangent

So the filament gcode has to be set in prusa slicer? I though klipper would have used the one I set in the printer.cfg
blacksmithforlife
If you set in slicer it will override what klipper has by default. I mostly print PLA so my klipper defaults are for PLA. But I also print ABS on occasion so I have the start gcode for ABS change the Z offset and the pressure advance

Huh, there is so much I still have to learn
blacksmithforlife
I have learned a lot from the people of discord - stick around and you will get there too

I just feel like a pain, asking seemingly obvious questions
blacksmithforlife
I mean - how else do you learn? There are no stupid questions just stupid answers

There is that, cheers. The funny part of how this problem came about is printing some PETG speaker adaptors that rattle like baby toys because of the nubby bits that broke off and filled the inside
blacksmithforlife
Yeah - I have never printed PETG - but from what I have seen of others it can be a real pain to tune
