Switched to a new AMD and just need some help.
So long story short I built a new PC and went to AMD. I have a Ryzen 9 7900x and a Radeon 7900 xtx. The big thing I want to get to learn is the Adrenaline App is a bit daunting after my switch from Geforce. Are there any settings I need to be aware of? Also as far as streaming what are the best practices to lower my resource usage (mainly CPU) and maximize my quality. I am currently using OBS 29.0.2. Previously I was using OBS 28 and Streamfx, but I would rather not pay for it and not even sure it is needed after looking at some of the stuff in the beta from one of EposVox's latest videos.
Again any information will be helpful I am sure, I haven't used AMD in well longer than I can remember.

Well first of all, a lot of things you can get for free in other OBS plugins like the blur filter plugin, etc. There also is OBS 29, which you should switch to ASAP.
Here are some tips for reducing resource usage in OBS:
1. Turn on Windows game mode
2. Turn off Windows Hardware GPU Scheduler on Windows 10 (or if you are on Windows 11 you should enable it)
3. Run OBS as admin (unless you are using HAGS on Windows 11, in which case do NOT)
4. Turn off Windows GameDVR/Captures and Game Bar
5. Make sure to allow OBS in your antivirus/anti-malware software and firewall, as well as all your games
6. Fully update Windows, OBS, your OBS plugins, graphics card drivers, and your games and software
7. Make sure all media sources are set to be hardware accelerated and close when inactive
8. Make sure all image sources are set to be unloaded when not in use
9. Disable "dynamically change bitrate to manage congestion" and "enable network optimizations" in OBS's advanced settings
10. Make sure all audio devices are set to the same sampling rate in Windows
11. Make sure all browser sources are set to shutdown when not visible and refresh browser when scene becomes active if applicable for that scene/source
12. Enable "enable browser source hardware acceleration" in OBS's advanced settings
13. Set your downsampling filter to Bicubic
14. Set your color format to NV12
15. Set color space to 709
16. Set color range to partial
17. Disable the preview while streaming/recording by right clicking the preview and selecting "disable preview"
As for Adrenaline, I would say make sure you use Display Driver Uninstaller and uninstall the current drivers on your system, then install the latest stable driver version
After that, just make sure nothing is using the sharpening AMD adds and the rest is mostly personal preference.
I am curious what the AMD sharpening does?
It just adds a sharpening filter, and it is very aggressive.
I hate the way it makes games look, but if you like it for whatever reason, you can leave it on
I would just try it with it off and see if you like it though
Okay will do!. Thanks for all that info. Looks like I got some homework to do!
Sure, no problem. 😄
Also this "Turn off Windows Hardware GPU Scheduler on Windows 10 (or if you are on Windows 11 you should enable it)" That option isn't there so I assume it is off?
Are you on Windows 10 or Windows 11?

Huh, it is supposed to be there. I would just check to make sure Windows is updated as well as your drivers, and if so (and it doesn't show up still) then it is most likely disabled
Okay. I think everything is updated, but I will investigate that setting more. I just looked at my CPU usage in OBS and noticed it was much higher than it was before on the previous rig and wanted to make sure things were done right since AMD is uncharted territory for me haha
If you make the changes I suggested and it is still high, it is possible there is a browser source or media source misbehaving, but we can cross that bridge when/if it is an issue
Awesome thanks again.
Sure, no problem 😄

Yeah, I understand completely
AMD drivers are just horrid on Windows for whatever reason
HAGS is exclusive to nvidia gpu so obs log gets a false positive with amd gpus at times
Ohh, right. I always forget that. Thank you.
I'll make a note of that in my guide
