Fallout 3 GOTY GoG missing directory on Steam Deck
Hello,
I am unable to launch Fallout3 GOTY on my steam deck. It always fails silently, and the log shows a missing directory. "Verify and repair" doesn't change anything. Any Ideas what I should do next?
Discord is giving an error attaching logs, I've put them on pastebin - https://pastebin.com/eiHLX2CH and https://pastebin.com/VBVZaXcz

disable steam runtime

Thanks! It launches now. No idea why I had steam runtime enabled

And now it won't run again. It worked once, but now seems to complain about not finding a running instance of steam. Do I need to also install wine besides proton on the deck?

try installing dotnet and msvc from __redist directory
(use run in prefix option in game settings )

Ok, will try
Can use winetricks to install them, or only the ones from __redist?

you can
msvc2005 (not sure about that one's name in winetricks)
dotnet35

I think it is vcrun2005

most likely

dotnet35 (and 35sp1) won't install, probably because of the 64bit prefix
Starting from scratch, I'll remove and install fallout3 again

dotnet failing is fine
Proton ships it I think
xenial-blackOPβ’3y ago
yes, but even with vcrun it gives the same missing steam error
quickest-silverβ’3y ago
missing steam is expected since it's Proton running outside of Steam
try Wine-GE

It's not installed on the deck, I'll see if there is a flatpak or needs to be installed in .local (the deck FS is mostly read-only)

you can get it from wine downloader
built in Heroic

Clean install, new prefix just to make sure, it launched. Still complains about steam, but that isn't the problem. Second launch worked too.
Seems like it was the steam runtime setting and then some bitrot.
