use Wine-GE, not proton experimental (it gets updated by steam, you don't have control over when that gets updated)
this game requires d3dcompiler_43 to be installed using winetricks
download Wine-GE-Proton from the Wine Manager section in heroic, set that for the game in the game settings, then click Winetricks in the settings > select default dlc > install a dll or component > look for the d3dcompiler_43 row, toggle it > ok, after it ends installing close all the winetricks stuff
if it still fails to start share a new log
