lost save on Borderlands 3
Hi all, I'm hoping someone can help me. I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to Linux and so a bit out of my depth.
I started Borderlands 3 yesterday and played about 45 mins. I then exited to desktop. When I rebooted I decided to choose a more recent version of proton and my save is no longer there. I've tried going back to the original proton and it doesn't load the same there either. I've looked for the .sav file on my steam deck and I can't find it, the save folder for Borderlands 3 is empty. I've also got a folder called 'corrupted pfx'.
What's happened and can I get my save back?

well, if there is folder called corrupted pfx, try looking in there and copying files into pfx one

Thanks for replying. Yeah I did that and the save folder in corrupted is also empty?
I have to go through drive C - users - steamuser - saved games?
Borderlands 3 saves to
%USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames\
(%USERPROFILE%
would be drive_c/users/steamuser
for Proton)sunny-greenOP•2y ago
Thanks! I ended up just playing it again up to the monitor bug point. Do you know how to fix that by why chance? I'm reading that a workaround is to download a media player or something but have also seen people having no problems on Steam deck. Do you know?

Borderlands 3 requires GE-Proton. if you were using stock Proton, I cannot confirm if it will actually save

GE proton? I'm using GE proton 7-43. That's GE proton right?
flat-fuchsia•2y ago
yes. it's also worth trying a newer version too

The saves are working fine now, it was only when I switched protons. The problem I'm now having is that I'm stuck in mission two where I have to watch a monitor but it doesn't do anything. I've read it's a common bug and is to do with media files or media player but I've also read that it's fine on Steam deck so I dunno. Do you know how to fix that?
My guess would be that whatever you're watching is a video that's encoded in a format Wine doesn't support
And Steam's version of BL3 includes a transcoded version in its shader cache (which you don't get on Epic)
https://github.com/z0z0z/mf-install helps on Wine, but I don't know if you can also install it on Proton (or rather, if Heroic + Proton is supported)

Ok thanks, just looking at the page tells me I wouldn't know how to install it anyway. Gah, guess I'm probably not going to be able to play my egs copy of BL3 on my deck. Very disappointing.

It can be with some careful env var handling

Yeah...I don't think I'm gonna be able to do that. To start with, I don't even understand how your latest message is related to that mf install thing.
I don't get what I'd be doing, what's I'd be pasting and for what purpose. It's all alien.

mf-install
is for video codecs that are missing from GEsunny-greenOP•2y ago
Yes I know. But I don't know what that has to do with the link you posted?

the command featured in the linked comment is how you install
mf-install
with a Heroic Proton prefix.
if you look at the end of the command, it includes ./mf-install.sh
so yes, it does have to do with mf-install
