borderlands 3 (epic games) save data not synced
I recently got a steam deck and I downloaded heroic launcher so I could play my epic games stuff, but for some reason I don’t have any of my data in borderlands 3. My main pc runs on windows 10 and I was wondering if that’s why my data is gone.

Did you go to the settings and at the bottom of the page enable cloud saves?
I'm assuming it's the same for Gog and epic. I don't have epic but that's how you do it for GOG

BL3 is one of the few exceptions that requires GE-Proton and not Wine-GE

Try forcing the download. Also verify the save path that is in heroic settings
Do not enable auto syncing or upload manually until you verified that your save could be downloaded
If you upload or auto sync, you run the risk of deleting your cloud save if it isn’t backed up

the manifest is also time stamped for pretty much today, so I'm now concerned that you may have overwritten your cloud save

so if you launch egs offline on the windows computer (if that is possible with egs) then play the game the saves on the win computer will be newer and will be uploaded to the cloud when you reconnect

the alternate is you put the save you want in the game on your heroic install and force upload
but personally regardless of how you do it, i would back up locally first

and pc gaming wiki is not clear on where epic game saves are stored
hmm ok looks like maybe userprofile\Documents\My Games\Borderlands 3\Saved\SaveGames
so in the screenshot beyond what I can see I think it should be
steamuser then follow the rest of the path ) Other than all the \ will be / when you direct it to that folder. If it is already directed to that folder then idk
I am also assuming that the steamdeck does not have a username but that it defaults to steamuser
if you set it to that path and then download the files again you may see the saves in place ( only download do not enable autosync until you know the save location is working)flat-fuchsia•2y ago
same window you did force download, there's a force upload
also to get the save on the steam deck is like any other computer, just put the file where borderlands expects it
iirc, steam deck should also be able to see windows shares so you can just download it from the computer its on
do not force upload until you are certain thats the save file you want
that will absolutely destroy whatever is cloud saved

in steam I am seeing the BL3 saves exactly where they are supposed to be. I would assume that it would be the same for egs but I have no way to verify that

don't even launch the game or the EGS/Heroic launchers, get into the game's save folder and make a copy ASAP

move the log file to your Downloads folder and upload it from there
it's a permissions thing
also, please be sure to grab the game log and not the global heroic log

Unless epic version done something differently I believe that the save path has an extra folder.
The location the saves are being downloaded to is
home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Borderlands 3/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Borderlands 3/Saved/SaveGames/bb60df16c6a04a868292f67c725505ec
If my memory is serving me correctly, the location in the steam version is
home/deck/Games/Heroic/Prefixes/default/Borderlands 3/pfx/drive_c/users/steamuser/Documents/My Games/Borderlands 3/Saved/SaveGames/
Unfortunately I'm not at my computer to be able to verify that but I'm fairly certain that the game saves were directly in the SaveGames folder.
If you check that folder directly what do you see in that SaveGames folder? You're settings should be saved there even if there aren't any game saves there if we have the correct locationquickest-silverOP•2y ago

That's what I thought which would mean for some reason that path is coming up with a weird final folder. I don't remember if in steam I had a folder with some random numbers and letters as the name or not but if I did it's not where my saves are. In fact I'm pretty sure I didn't have any folder there so that might be something epic uses to identify the cloud saves with a particular account
The way I would test this is the saves have been downloaded which means they're probably in that random number folder. I would move the saves back into the SaveGames folder then start the game and see if it's now finding your saves. If it is change the save location to the proper path and then just to be safe I would delete the wine prefix and allow it to be recreated then use the button to manually download the saves so that they are synced check it again if they're there then you can turn on save autosync

Hmm then it must be stored differently than in steam because I'm pretty sure when I check steam yesterday there wasn't even any random number folder. Like you I'm not at my desktop to check even in steam

Ok. Then maybe epic versions saves them someplace else, or maybe I'm just not remembering correctly but I'm pretty sure with steam I'm correct🤷♀️
If that's the save location I don't know why they wouldn't be used then. The log showed they were being downloaded so they should be there and if they're there they should be found by the game:Thonk:

yep so the order of ops:
- back up that save from another pc somewhere safe
- copy it to your prefix to the path linked in pc game wiki
- force upload only when you are certain its the right save

(incidentally yes it's just a system link to your documents folder but that's really not ideal, however, the only way you can change that is to run wine config and unlink those folders before anything gets written to them. OOF mentioned they were trying to figure out some way to have that done without the clunky way that lutris does it. A bit off topic I know)

copy all of the files from the machine that has a good copy of the save state to a safe place, then copy from there to your other device..
literally all you have to do

I think what happened is you either don't have cloud saves enabled on your windows computer for BL3 or you tried to enable auto-sync in heroic b4 downloading the saves
