Ark: SE from EpicGamesStore - can not join ANY server

Can anyone here connect to any server with Ark: Survival Evolved installed from the Epic Games Store?
We are trying to set up a private group to play Ark: SE.
The problem is that one user playing Ark:SE from Linux via Epic, who can not connect a private server we've set up. EDIT: Local games can be started and work without issues. Curiously, another user (well, me) can connect the server from the Steam version of Ark:SE.
I've installed Ark:SE from EpicGamesStore via Heroic Launcher (since I own it on both Steam and Epic), and noticed I can not connect to ANY server, be that an official or an unofficial one. The game window will close and re-open, with the connect option blurred out. There is no error messages. This is the same behaviour my friend is experiencing. I've also tried via Lutris - and it's the same there.
A user who is running Windows and Ark:SE from Epic can connect to servers.
I've tried things such as enabling steam runtime, different wine versions (including Proton-GE and vanilla wine), disabling BattleEye (since all we really need is unofficial servers)...

Proton's logs provide virtually no information, please run the game with Wine-GE instead & send in its log

Hi, here is the log with wine-GE-Proton8-8. I can try other versions (or different settings) if that's helpful.

I'm trying to connect to a non-password-protected server first, which just takes me back to main menu (no error message, but the connect button is not blurred this time). On a second try I'm trying to connect to our private server, and now (apparently) there is a crash (the window closes) and re-opens with the connect button blurred.
I can start a local game (forgot to say this!). It's just the server connection which fails.
