game crashing on start (fall out new vegas)
I'm a new linux user, and I was trying to play my epic games version of new vegas through the heroic launcher. Everything installed without a hitch, but when i click run the "play now" button turns from "playing" back to "play now" immedietly and doesn't launch the game.

the log gives me this error message:

Downgrade heroic to version 2.8 or add gamemode or another wrapper to your game settings

changed from wine to proton and it worked

But proton isnt really recommended outside of steam

ok vegas menu opens but when i click start in menu it crashes

do i have to entirely uninstall/reinstall or is there a more effecient method for downgrading
ok now its telling me wine cant find a wine-mono package
but i think i already have mono installed

because terminal responds to mono commands

Tbh tho since you tried proton you could have mixed up your prefix. If you have no saves, you should just remove your prefix (not the game install)

Reinstalling isnt needed.. Just removing the prefix and starting the game again should be enough

yeah i dont get that --wrapper thing anymore
thats completely solved with hotfix
but i dont think wine likes the vegas launcher
lifeless planet has its own launcher and it seems to be working fine
fallout 3 works
for whatever reason i think it just hates new vegas
im gonna try adding it as a non-steam game and running it through steam

i moved the entire game folder to my steam games
and added the launcher as a steam game once i did that
and it still opens the vegas launcher and doesnt run game when i click launch

if it's easier, you can download the official epic games launcher and install it in the prefix (settings in heroic > run exe in prefix)
you don't need to actually use the app or anything, just install it inside the game prefix and it will set the registry key

if you go to the settings of the game in heroic there's a button
run exe in prefix that handles that for you
you can also do: settings in heroic > winetricks > use it to run regedit and manauly add the key mentioned theregradual-turquoise•2y ago
also sounds like you put your prefix in a non standard heroic location
