First discord post ever - about shorts.
Don't know my way around here, but thanks for preserving the sub and abandoning the scab-mods.
I wear the same thing every day, but my shorts have reached the end of their road and I want to replace them. I'm fairly tall and skinny; in winter I wear jeans, boots, a black shirt and a green chore jacket. Summer I wear the same black shirt, and shorts. I am prepared to spend for quality and style. Seeking a pair of shorts that is practical (2+ functional pockets), fit for outdoor activity (cycling, housework), durable, but not giant khaki cargo shorts like when I was ten years old. Open to all good ideas.

budget?
you could go sporty with athletic-inspired shorts (lady white co, velva sheen), gorpy with climbing shorts (gramicci, cayl), or milsurp with fatigue shorts (engineered garments, maybe orslow). patagonia baggies are beloved by mfa as well
Budget could approach $150, if I can be convinced that the shorts will live a very long life and endure a lot.
can i ask how you know your shorts have reached the end of their lifespan? if it's things like holes or tears, those can be easily repaired by a tailor and will extend their longevity
/edit: would add, budget up to $150 if I can be convinced the shorts will live a long, long life. Plain color/no pattern. Thin fit, for thin legs.
Sure - they are patagonia shorts, don't recall what kind, but they are a synthetic material. The lining is worn out/ragged, the bottom half is sun bleached while the top isn't, and the cord is fraying.
Sounds like baggies
I would actually encourage you to keep them (and also get a new pair of shorts if you want some wardrobe diversity 🙂 ). Sun bleaching and cord fray are imo really cool bc they show you really wear your clothes hard. I think in the 21st century we've all been conditioned to interpret any kind of "damage" as a bad thing, when in reality it a) makes you look coller and b) indicates that you dont treat your clothes as disposable
for your budget i think gramicci would be up your alley. maybe lady white or engineered garments on sale. all should last you a long time!
Well, what I'll do is demote them basically, to work-shorts. They've already got paint and whatever on them, and I'll keep them for that purpose, but want something else for everyday/public use. Will definitely look at these recs, and buy them, since I'm enteirly dependent on friendly internet people for my clothes recs.
outlier new way shorts but no personal experience
I came upon these too, and they look great.
i love this idea. outlier is also a great rec as they are pretty much unbeatable, from what i've heard, on the durability front
Thanks y'all. The old sub got me my jacket, which I love and wear every day - this is a helpful group.
I have worn outlier new ways for 10+ years AMA
