Motherboard swap issue.

Hello I've been running my rig the past few months without an issue until the MB failed. I replaced it with the same motherboard. I flashed it with the pro-446 firmware found in firmware_binaries. Confirmed the file type does change from the flash. Please see photos for my issue. I get the blue trying to connect for a few minutes then the error.

Did some testing with the old MB it see that's one. So I flashed it with the same firmware I'm using in the new board and the issue is on the old one now as well as the new one. So either the issue is the firmware or the SD card.

Version 1.x was deprecated in May. You should move to 2.x and then use the configurator to do the install as it is much better

I take it I have to reimagine the SD card in the pi Also my printer is on an offline network and for me to update anything I have to isolate it and use my phones hot spot
blacksmithforlife
correct, 1.x and 2.x are incompatible. Keep your printer.cfg as reference for filling out the new printer.cfg. You will not be able to copy paste it in 2.x version

Is it possible to get it up and running without doing the update? It looks like I just need the correct firmware.bin file for the print. If I have to do this update I have to bring the printer home to do this.

Updated and same issue. It's 100% firmware related as the new firmware made both boards dead.

dead? Looks like it just can't connect. Did the configurator confirm that it was able to flash the board?

Not sure what you mean with configurator as I flash the firmware for the board via SD card The new image flashed and confirmed good for 2.xx RatOS
blacksmithforlife
the website when you go to http://RatOS.local/configure?step=1 is the configurator so just to confirm - you when to http://RatOS.local/configure?step=1, followed the wizard, clicked the compile firmware button, then downloaded it to a SD card, flashed your octopus board, then went back to http://RatOS.local/configure?step=1 and the wizard confirmed it flashed correctly?

Is there no way to generate the firmware other than going back to the start?

I don't understand, why can't you generate it through the configurator?

I don't get it. The firmware I had on the old board was fine. I then went and got new firmware and now both boards don't work. I have the F446 board Can someone send me a firmware file for the board? I went through all the steps to setup the printer.cfg same as I had done before. Still nothing.

Please follow the installation instructions to the letter. The configurator will tell you when the board is properly flashed before moving onto anything else. We cannot help you if you don’t follow the instructions.

Once again. you still haven't followed the instructions. Use the configurator to flash your board. read the manual at os.ratrig.com. Show us a picture of the configurator once detected or not detected.

Both boards do this. The 1 board was installed and working with zero issues other than a limit switch issue

Same result with both boards One board is new and one was installed and still running but now doesn't since the new firmware Also yes I've tried a few different USB to USB C cables. I've used the same SD card to flash this motherboard and many others

And the pi is connected to wifi at this point? (ie. not just connected to the HotSpot). No, i'm telling you to use the configurator. This isn't usb related. USB communication is established at this point.

Pi is directly connected to my PC via Ethernet.

miklschmidt11mo ago
Ah i can see it here, you're connected to the hotspot. That won't work, klipper needs an internet connection for compiling it's C scripts for some unknown reason. That won't work

Reason I told you guys I can't put the printer on our network at work It's a nightmare for me to update things
miklschmidt
miklschmidt11mo ago
Right, alas, it needs an internet connection. You can try proceeding to mainsail, but there's no gauranteeing the board is working correctly.

You can start a hotspot on your phone and connect to that

You might need to do it as the very first thing, before you start compiling and flashing.

This is good, everything is working as intended, i'm assuming you just need to select the right MCU in your printer.cfg now.

Crap I forgot I got to set that all up again. My last one I had a bunch of added changes. Luckily I backed it up

Yeah i think that was your issue this whole time. I really recommend reading the documentation, i think that would've helped you a lot.

No I went and did the cfg config a few times. I think the issue was not being connected to wifi. But in the future I really need a way to swap boards without having to do the full OS re-image on the SD card. I now have a new issue. I think I need to update my modified board CFG

I don't know why you got the impression that this is necessary at all. If you have a new board, you just run the configurator and flash it and you're done. You were told to upgrade to v2.0 because v1 is discontinued. Has nothing to do with your new board
like-gold

I was told I needed to update my ratos
miklschmidt
miklschmidt11mo ago
Not because of the new board You were on an old unsupported version
like-gold
like-gold11mo ago
I was under the impression that was the reason for the issue
miklschmidt
miklschmidt11mo ago
as in, we don't offer support to v1, it has been discontinued for over 6 months. It wasn't But we can't continue to support legacy software.

This is what I was told and the reason I made the change. Version 1.x was deprecated in May. You should move to 2.x and then use the configurator to do the install as it is much better
miklschmidt
miklschmidt11mo ago
Exactly There was no configurator in v1.x either, so no way for you to get proper feedback on your board without asking here. Now you just run the configurator and follow the steps when you need to flash a board.

That part is nice. It's just hard to have to get this thing online and updated. Working for a defense contractor makes it hard.

Yep, driver x is not detected. Either jumpers are wrong, the stepper power jumper is missing or wrong or the driver isn’t seated correctly or dead
