Very poor performance in Rocket League

I have installed Rocket League both through Heroic and Lutris. At the very lowest settings I cannot get above 60 fps, it is usually around 40. My laptop is not too powerful but I am able to play Minecraft java at 165+ fps with average graphics settings. My understanding was that Rocket League was a lighter game. I know that the wine/proton stuff would reduce performance but I didn't think it would be this significant.
The only way I can make the game playable is to run the game in a 720p window and this is not ideal. Is there anything I could do to improve rocket leagues performance? Any help is appreciated. Some system info:

the amount of ram you have might cause issues with performance also rocket league is defintely not a ligher game than minecraft lmao make sure you have dxvk enabled as well
