Canvas. What’s up with the tie and the shirt though?
Is something wrong?
I don't know much about fashion
I'm only recently starting to care about what I wear
And how I look
I would ditch the tie. Generally speaking wearing a tie without a jacket doesn’t look very great especially on a short sleeve casual shirt
This is a great place to start!
My school uniform short sleeve shirt with a tie
I thought I could start from there
If it’s a school uniform and you have to wear it then you have to wear it
But if you’re doing casual outside of school I’d try avoiding the tie with a shirt without a jacket
I'm in Australia and even though it's winter, it gets warm and sunny
It might get too hot for a jacket
Does it have to be short sleeve?
Then don't wear the tie (unless you have to wear it as a uniform)
Canvas
Are there any circumstances where it is appropriate to wear black, like if I had grey trousers on?
Black what? Black is very versatile and can be worn as any garment
Except maybe a black dress shirt if you are new to it
I meant the black shoes oops
I’m personally not a huge fan of black leather sneakers but I’d wear them with black socks. Grey trousers may work. I wonder if someone else can chime in for suggestions
I'd say pair the socks with the pants rather than the shoes
Black leather sneakers are fine with black or blue jeans imo
Grey pants isn't a bad idea as long as it isn't too dark
Are there rules on colour combinations?
Depends on the colour
Seconding everything, the red ones look better, ditch the tie, all black sneakers are less versatile than you would think, they’ll mostly look worse than a lighter sneaker like white or off white, they work well with all black or black and white outfits well
sort of, but it's really not something you should be worrying about outside of highly formal situations
All black leather sneakers can be harder to pull off (hence the memes about black AF1s), but it really depends on the rest of the outfit
Personally I dig both shoes in the above look, so you should go with whatever makes you more comfortable. For feedback on subtle things like color coordination you should post more fits in #outfit-feedback. Don't worry about "appropriate"-ness. Again, outside of places with strict dress codes, it's probably not going to be a faux-pas or anything
