still tuning. retraction issue?
Stock v-minion.
Silk pla. 203C for the hot end and 60C for the bed. Using firmware retraction:
[firmware_retraction]
retract_length: 0.5
retract_speed: 60
unretract_extra_length: 0
unretract_speed: 39
Ran multiple retraction towers and cant seem to dial it in.

Looks like a slicer issue or pressure advance

I did PA tuning as well. Got a value of 0.107
Does that seem reasonable?
I thought it looked like the z-seam

This pressure advance might need retuning. Im running a mosquito magnum with an orbiter and mine is only 0.053
Depending on your hardware the setting will be different but with direct drive (which I assume you are using) I'd expect something a bit lower
wise-white•15mo ago
yes, direct drive.
using the PHAETUS DRAGONFLY BMO ST HOTEND
ill take a look into this. wondering if i missed a 'zero'
adverse-sapphire•15mo ago
Quite possible 🙂 Good luck!

so i made PA 0.0107 and reprinted the same gcode. same exact issue. in the exact same pattern at the same positions on the print.. <face palm>

Might be worth running a full PA calibration like on this guide: https://www.klipper3d.org/Pressure_Advance.html#:~:text=Typical%20pressure%20advance%20values%20are,improve%20the%20quality%20of%20prints.
It is still weird that you didn't notice any change so it might not be pressure advance after all
wise-white•15mo ago
Correct. Reset all PA settings and this was the print. Its def at layer change.

Pressure advance cube per the klipper tutorial. I cant see a difference at all in the cube. I reran it again and made sure i didnt miss the gcode. So weird
Do yall use any retraction setting with PA settings active?

This is very odd and unexpected. There should be significant variation throughout the layers, especially when comparing the top and bottom layers of the print. But I’ve seen this when I entered the wrong TUNING_TOWER increment (bowden vs direct drive) or missed one of the tuning gcodes.
In the tutorial:
Use a slicer to generate g-code for the large hollow square found in docs/prints/square_tower.stl. Use a high speed (eg, 100mm/s), zero infill, and a coarse layer height (the layer height should be around 75% of the nozzle diameter). Make sure any "dynamic acceleration control" is disabled in the slicer. Are you sure you got all those? Also can you upload your klippy.log (the one from when you did the tuning tower)?

Unrelated to the PA and seam issue but this will be worth investigating later: https://ellis3dp.com/Print-Tuning-Guide/articles/troubleshooting/vfas.html

I am on vacation currently and wont be back to test anything until next week. But yes, i followed the tutorial and ensured the proper g-code for a direct drive setup.
Ill reattack the issue next week
Tweaked the retraction settings.

I think im just gonna start over with the slicer settings. Clean slate. 😭🤦♂️
