Olive suit with this dress?

Date is wearing this floral dress to a wedding soon. Before she had made up her mind, I had planned to wear my olive suit (pictured from internet), but I am worried since the dress is green-heavy I’m gonna look like a goober. Thoughts?

Cocktail dress code btw

it is a little matchy-matchy. If you have a navy or gray suit to wear instead, I'd go with that

Unfortunately I got a little too chonky for my navy suit and the top button is fighting for its life when buttoned Guess I could just never button it all night or try my best to drop 5-10 pounds in a month

your tailor can probably help with that and if not, it's not the end of the world to be matchy matchy with your date!

Need to hem the pants anyway so I might ask if he can move the button over

I was thinking more like let it out at the seam, not move the button over

And yea there are certainly worse looks, and I’ve never had an opportunity to wear the olive suit which is why I was happy to plan to wear it Yea I could but I also don’t know if you can do that with those J crew unstructured suits And I am not sure if ~3 weeks lead time is enough Probably not

my guy takes a week for this kind of stuff the unstructured-ness of those J Crew suits just means there's no canvas on the inside, it doesn't mean anything about how much material there is to work with in the seams I don't know whether or not it'll have room for adjustment though, but your tailor probably will

I honestly have to go find one since my now passed on grandmother used to do my basic alterations 😅 Anyway, thanks for the feedback! I appreciate it

Definitely don't try to move a button. You can let the jacket out at side and/or back seams, wear unbuttoned. Or just roll with the olive suit and don't worry about it.
