The design the Rhino itself is based off of is open source. There's a few users on here working on build lists and instructions for similiar designs

Ok thanks that's kind of how I thought it was, but I haven't been following the build stuff that carefully and didn't want to give potentially too rosy a picture of the situation for someone looking to buy a kit or a rhino

It is a great joystick and being ffb makes it easy to configure it how you like it. But I assume elite doesn't benefit much if anything from force feedback from the game

If Frontier provided an API for accessing in-game events like cargo scoop use, firing, hits and whatnot then maybe? I know there are third party utilities which use some kind of telemetry from Elite and people control their cockpit led lights with it. Also the spaceships fly in the atmosphere of the planets too nowadays so yeah, maybe FFB stick could be nice. But we need devs to open up that data first.

Elite can be problematic since you will be pulling hard on the stick for extended periods of time, since spaceships pretty much never run out of energy

Hey all, new rhino owner here..number 164 ! Very pleased / impressed so far, but need some quick help with getting the best out of it ASAP for DCS. Its installed and working, along with Telem FFB. Now, I have looked but due to the scrolling nature of Discord, there is a limit on how much searching you can do....Are there profiles and settings around by users that I can try for the various DCs modules I own? And where can I find these? looked in the profiles section but only 2 or 3 there and not relevant to me...... I use the F14, F5, Mirage F1, Harrier, Hornet & Strike Eagle. Many thanks.....

Hi and welcome! 📙knowledge-baseRhino Profile Sharing is the right place but there are indeed surprisingly few of them there. Luckily, customizing settings and TelemFFB effects isn't hard to do. If there is something specific you'd like to improve on a specific module and you don't know how to do it, just ask. Myself, I don't change the settings between modules that much, I may just add some inertia and dampening when I fly bigger

I was leaning more towards the settings within the configurator in terms of the way people have these set up for the various modules. As the telem effects seem pretty well sorted! I ask , as coming from a Brunner joystick base, I had several profiles for varying modules with that, that cleverer people than me had made to try and emulate as near as possible how the real life airframe behaved and felt. Obviously, a fly by wire Hornet behaves and feels quite different than say an F14 Tomcat in real life.

Remember it's all very new. We get telemetry effects for the most popular sims now and by the looks of it, IL-2 is going to get something next. Myself I'm eagerly waiting for X-Plane 12 support in TelemFFB because XP12 just started working properly with my VR headset.

An implementation of X-Plane 12 should not be that hard to do because all sim values are exposed via DataRefs. Unfortunately my programming skills are not sufficient for this.

Pretty cool to think a Falcon 5.0 is in the works with a flyable F-35 among other things, and that they are working on an Apache simulator as well.

Anyway, relevancy for us FFB enthusiasts is we could all reach out to MicroProse and preach the good word about FFB not being dead, and that all sorts of effects, or ability to access them, should be implemented into their upcoming games

(Now obviously, neither the F16 or F35 have FFB in their sticks, being force sensing, but these are still new games in the early stages of development and we as a community could do our part by requesting FFB support)

So have a question regarding the effects and how to tweak. Been flying the F5 in DCS using standard settings apart from the axis centre. Doing aeros, I find at some point in the loop, as you recover, the stick come back quite hard into my crotch........why is that? Also, using telem, as I land and decellerate down the runway, the stick is very active, too much I think....what parameter do I adjust to calm that down a bit? Cheers!

I believe that the 94mm in the FAQ only take the motor body into account and not the encoder housing, but I would really like to know the total length for sketching up a new idea of mine.

Once you are closing the front of the pre-order queue, the VPforce bot will prompt you to place the actual order and gives you the link. Once you do, you get to choose options/accessories with the actual FFB base. After that you will receive the invoice and get stuff shipped. The lead time from ordering to shipping is very short (compared to the long waiting time in the queue).

I've been doing some work on the G-force based effects (because they can start oscillating).. but I notice in your #

showcase pics that you have your Rhino mounted backwards.. this is perfectly normal (I do, too).. but I wanted to ask if you inverted your axis in VPforce configurator or if you inverted them in DCS.

If you inverted them in DCS rather than configurator, that could explain why the G-force is trying to nut-sack you. The g-induced forces are only supposed to be "away" from the pilot, but if your stick is upside down and the axis is not inverted (in configurator) then "away" will be towards you.
