wedding clothing help thread number 29949383

So. A good friend is getting married in a month. Truthfully, I could turn up in anything as long as it wasn't publicly indecent and it would be fine, but I want to make an effort for my friend. Confusingly, the theme is "black and white and rainbow". Suits will be a bit too OTT for the vibe and I'm short and fat enough that none will fit me OTR anyway. I guess I'm looking for smart casual wedding inspo? I'm thinking smart black trousers, a colourful shirt and Chelsea boots but I'm kind of unsure exactly what kind of shirt exactly.

Colorful dress shirts aren’t too hard to come by these days, but you could make your life easier by just going with a colorful tie.

Is tie with no jacket too lame though? I don't own any smart jackets and there's no way I can get one that fits before wedding in 4 weeks

Tie with no jacket is not my preferred look; jacket with no tie is fine. If you don't want a suit, you may consider a different kind of jacket, but ties don't work with most of those either. As a guest you are generally not expected to be part of their wedding theme. If you're going sans suit, then I'd recommend your favorite button-front shirt, keep the top two buttons open since you're going no tie, along with good trousers. I would probably not go with black if I had an option, unless you're trying to lean into their theme. Chelsea boots are fine for the formality level.
