Projects: The Visual Wardrobe, Part 1
Appreciating the wardrobe that you have in new ways
Essentially a project documenting your wardrobe
Bro is this a homework assignment
I just read the substack post and it made me more confused?
he's making a pdf with pictures of his clothes???
there was an example posted right in the beginning
a visually appealing catalog of a wardrobe
yeah but why is this the daily topic? how do we discuss this
no one is forcing you to a discussion, just be like oh neat and move on
I remember other nice visual documentations folks did of their wardrobes on reddit. It was always really interesting to see the full collection while also knowing a decent amount about the person's style. Seeing individual fits is great obviously, but it can be easy to assume that everyone owns certain types of items or has a massive wardrobe or whatever. Seeing the full collection I always found super interesting
i did it once then my wardobe changed so much after a year. at that point i was like, hmmn too much work. do regret not doing it though, just to see the progression of the wardrobe
This is the daily discussion thread, r u telling me we can’t discuss in the daily discussion thread
but i have too much stuff now..
if the discussion is, i cant discuss this
then yeah?
U can’t discuss this
It’s an ad
It also gives a bit more insight into things like selecting items that you do or don't want to keep or buy. Myself, like a lot of other folks here I assume, have been inundated with "3290158 things every man should own!!!!!" lists and infographics and what-not.
I agree that we can’t discuss this
Meta talk is dumb. If you don't like it then stop clogging the channel
Without doing homework
Oh I was just confused because there was no link initially I have no issue with it
What???
Am I supposed to talk about Walker’s wardrobe
its not forcing anyone to do anything, just like hey, im doing this. what do you think about it
Every other post had a question
This had no question
Skill issue. I've managed to post a few paragraphs of thoughts
#spotlight
wonder what that says
Oh I read the post
my bad I guess I might have just misunderstood the purpose of the daily discussion posts
Use your powerful cognitive abilities to make a connection between what someone else is doing and what you think about how it could relate to you
I’m proud of u dog
I didn’t see the link lol
Gold star
we already have #fashion-discussion , this doesn't have to be a exact copy
I do this, there’s an app for it
Okay why do you do it
What do you get out of it
Has it helped you
Do I have to think for you or are you an adult
I do it so I don’t make a dumb purchase
I have 3 white shirts I don’t need another sort of deal
That would’ve been a better title/description tho
Not Walker is doing this, “have u tried this”
Sure, but you don’t have to be a dick
Just be regular
I'd also be curious how @setfiretoflames 's wardrobe has changed since this post 5 years ago
Instead of constantly petulant when you don’t like something
I don't think he has that role
i was having that sort of discussion, if you dont have anything to say dont be annoying by being the 🤓 um actually, guy
I didn’t want to be but if someone is gonna be rude to me I’ll be rude back
I am truly at the end of my rope with y’all I have been more patient and willing to engage with the bullshit than anyone else on the mod team
So fr just chill
Ive actually been meaning to take some pics of all my clothes to keep better track of them, I feel like I forget about pieces too easily and having a more organized visual reference could be helpful. I'll have a folder for stuff that I've sold or gotten rid of too so I can remember them!
That’s all I ask
I try to contribute but u time me out when I even slightly annoy u
Man blocking on discord is such garbage
I have never timed you out it has been a different mod every time
And that makes me want to contribute way less
And yet here you are
But that’s not the point of this thread
Dm me or talk about the post
Bro I made a joke at ur expense and was timed out 30sec later, if another mod is watching me that hard it’s a problem y’all gotta address internally
I’m serious
You know there are like 30 mods right lol
Ok I’ll stop, I would actually have a conversation with u in dm
I think there was just some confusion about the point of the thread
yeah Jimi
I don't know how it got here lol
Bumping these bc of the stupid meta chat
Personally I’ve never felt the need to catalog what I have, I can keep most of it straight in my head
But I also tend to uniform dress
just wanted to apologize! mistook genuine confusion as a complaint
The confuzzler confused
all good! I apologize if my message came across that way
I actually do find it useful to catalog bc when I’m looking at something new to buy it’s ez to be like “I don’t need this” bc I have something similar
And it makes it easy to identify holes in my wardrobe
I meanwhile only buy things that are similar to things I already have
Welcome to the club new blue and white striped button down
It also makes it ez to be like “I have nothing to wear with this” and I can separate in my head something being cool vs something I can wear
I've never found a catalog for my personal use useful at all. ik what overlap and stuff I have. But I find it super fun to see someone else's wardrobe whose fits I'm familiar with
I've never cataloged but I feel like it would be super helpful for me for shopping and putting together fits. I legit just go through my past fit pics sometimes to remember what I own lol
This is useful though, I never buy something if I can’t think of at least 2-3 different outfits I can wear it with
Cute idea, don’t know if I could get enough out of it to be worth photographing every article of clothing I have
I feel like if you're doing this you need a smaller wardrobe
maybe a related idea would work better as a monthly challenge?
like a create your own lookbook type thing
Is this a too big wardrobe or not good remember brain thing?
Insert succession gif
I still do buy some things if they don’t fit but it’s more of a challenge to style it or push myself a little
I'll forget I have something cool and not wear it or not think it works with something else
oooh
I love Adele
IM SO SORRY
last time i tried to do this all the apps sucked and imgur just made it hard to visualize things. might try an app i found, which also shows how much you wear something specifically too
I use whering
ooh ty
It’s pretty ass tho ngl
Maybe not ass but like not the best
I definitely have too many clothes I don't wear. I just wear the same stuff too often and need to remind myself of cool stuff I have sometimes like walker said
i use this app called stylebook but its paid and its just ok
I think it'd be interesting to see the stats of what I wear, but also the idea of punching in the items I wear everyday into an app sounds horrible
there's a new one for free a friend is using that is pretty good
@setfiretoflames I’m working on something similar for my ivy guide with canva. How’s word working for you because not having a grid/basic graphic design functions made it a pain in the ass for me.
what's the free one called?
What would be cool is an app where u have a fit and then u can see the pieces in it and then if u look at a piece u can see the fits u wear with it
truuu, i do be lazy. and generally i do realize when i dont wear something often
https://whering.co.uk/?invitedBy=h6YDPKn7y3VPRLhpXfK2aDx0eqY2 @e30ultra would recommend
Whering
Your wardrobe, digitised – Whering
The app that’s gonna change your outfit game in 2023. Catalogue your clothes, create unlimited outfits, get styling suggestions and shop more mindfully. Save time, money and reduce consumption.
thank you 🫡🫡🫡
The app I just said I didn’t like 😭
LOL
i mean yeah its not perfect
Skill issue
its a lot of manual work
but its unavoidable rn lol
i like having all the pics and doing moodboards and stuff
I just dislike how it forces generic pieces on u
i actually use stylebook not this app
davis make a better app
so i mnot sure on the specifics
it just looks exactly the same to me
as the one i was using
which was paid
(bought before whering was out)
First step of a new app is dark theme, second step is no instructions
Ez
need a discogs for clothes
many have tried
its Hard
“Utilizing ai and blockchain we suggest clothes to new users”
🤝
Cut the check
I will say the iOS sticker feature makes creating a visual wardrobe pretty easy
yeah ez cut outs at least
I think the biggest issue is all the leg work u have to do at the start
I’m using retailers pics where possible so I don’t have to worry about good pics
That’s smart
I try and just take a photo when I cop something
But ik I have a backlog rn
yup it is the biggest issue
just take a day
after that its incremental and easy
Ye
if ur like me i documented while trying to go through what to sell
so was a good time to get my pics for listings too
I was able to throw this together with canva pretty quickly
My only issue with product shots is they can be a little misleading as to proportions
I like to have everything the same if possible
Very true - my goal with this is to use product pics for a basic visual and then an inspo album to show all the different versions.
I think I used MSPaint for this https://burk.blog/posts/ivy-starter-pack/
$275 Starter Pack - Ivy Edition
I saw /u/silkk_’s starter pack here and was inspired to put together a version of what I wear almost every day. This one is a bit more expensive, but I think the individual pieces are priced well and worth it.
This is a baseline to get you started. Many would say that a navy blazer is required for this to truly be an Ivy guide and I’m inclined t...
I did lol
Makes sense and im sure my system wouldn’t work for everyone
Yeah I think it comes down to what you want out of it. My goal is a basic guide Vs an actual visualized wardrobe
Yeah, exactly
Visual wardrobes is like a niche part of MFA I enjoyed whenever it did pop up
Similarly the pants collection thread was nice I would look at it every week and not get bored
I've kept up with a text spreadsheet in the past, but ironically I feel like I need something more visual and it'd probably help too. All my clothes are folded up and it's hard to just stare at them the way it is and think about fits without pulling a bunch of stuff out, idk if I'm overthinking the hassle
As for medium, I've seen some people use notion to sort their wardrobe and it seems good since I use it as a calendar/journal archive compared to having install a separate app
Or I might try to tinkle with Google photos url into the text
Here’s mine from 2020 https://imgur.com/a/h2Iu4BY
It’s significantly different from where mine is now, but I have neither the time nor interest in updating it 😊
this is really well done
very much in the same style as the tttigre post
also I can't believe those prices
I like using Illustrator for stuff and could see myself doing making a nice looking wardrobe post in it, but it does seem like quite a bit of work
If I’m gonna do a book layout it’s gonna be for something way more interesting than all my clothes
But I do like seeing them
smh clothes not being an interesting enough
Outfits at least
Don’t bring me back to flat lays
I've been trying to make a book with my photography for years but it's so hard to get started 😭I don't think I'll ever end up doing one for clothes
Bro I couldn’t even keep up on a daily instagram
Miss it
I could never do daily instagram. I like photo dumps too much
It was daily photo dumps it was honestly exhausting
thanks bro. gonna have to do it now so I don't let you down 🫡
Help us with the @weejawnz stuff - it’s only been two weeks and I’m starting to struggle.
True I need to submit some stuff
I did a photo book once and it was a lot of fun but yeah it’s just more work than it seems at first, I’ve also just got the worst computer posture in the game so I need to avoid it whenever possible
It’s so satisfying to have a physical representation though
Really great feeling, if anyone does the work of laying out a whole ass book, 100% you should get at least one physical copy made
Investing in an ergo setup for my computer was a life saver
That and a good chair
I don’t have a computer based job and I find computer chairs horrifically ugly so I just suffer once in a while
ergo gang
I have a HM Sayl
I think it looks really cool
i found a HM aeron on the street
and glove80 keeb w a kensington trackball mouse
🔥
I built my own keeb but didn’t take it with me when I moved
The sayl is good for what it is, very nice modern design, just not the aesthetic of my space
Did you ergo up your drawing area
@bishopcorrigan i do have a real chair instead of folding now and i do have an easel so kinda
its a cesca style chair so not particularly ergo though
Gotcha, I was lucky, I had my Sayl before the apartment so we kinda planned around it
🤝
this joint rly is the best ive used tbh. waited 2 years on kickstarter and i gotta say that shit is worth it
I also have a cesca type thing
i love my lil cesca collection lol. i wanna make my upholstered ones a bit cute with some cloth wraps
Been tempted by a kinesis tbh
But I like my little 65%
@imdavis kinesis are good i have used them all. i need special low switches they dont have though. this one is inspired by that concave Advantage2 design; once you get used to it it really is the best.
I’ve thought about building something like what u linked, soldering a kb doesn’t seem to hard
yeee you could fs
i am terrible at it so i dont build my own
I have two
Soldering is ez once u do it a few times
The tttigre OG wardrobe inventory post was so iconic
It’s so much work to curate though, especially if one maintains a diverse or constantly changing wardrobe
In a way my a place in the sun series was indirectly inspired from it - the brands list pages that I always included were a direct homage to the way tttigre did his back in the day
The layout stuff I always enjoyed doing though… I do it often for my work anyway, so this idea of laying it out like a print book is very much a concept that I found attractive
These days I just have a (very nerdy) spreadsheet with all my wardrobe and I keep track of what I own there. I find it helpful to look at everything at a glance
Granted it’s not beautiful or visual to look at, but it’s functional
I know quite a few people who do the same as well
mine are both hotswap. way better imo
That wasn’t an option when I built
you can also just cop the hotswap sockets from gateron and solder them in yourself if you want to have the option to hotswap on a board that doesn't offer it
That would require me to resolder my board, that ain’t happening
hot swapping is for indecisive ppl
😤
i never want anything but 10g or 20g kalih choc switches though
cringe, GAMER take
That’s why I went 65%
I also spring swapped and stickered each switch, I’m never swapping
hhkb is for HACKERS its in the NAME
I am indecisive!!!!
What game uses arrow keys in current year
Arrow keys are truly the adobe user take
Need a hot key to increase/decrease my keyboard increment in illustrator
currently I have a 75% but I could very comfortably go to a 65%. anything less than that would be annoying to me
