Brand and/or product recommendations for a utility/field jacket?

I'm looking to get a utility/field jacket for the upcoming colder weather. Budget isn't a huge factor, but I don't want to drop over $500 because that would seem excessive. I'd prefer a color/design that's versatile. I'm 5ft9, ~145lbs, and a bit on the slender side, if that helps. I'm not very familiar with clothes or brands, so I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks!

Like a Barbour? If so, but from Cox the saddler. I’m prefer the Beaufort for the extra length but you may prefer the bedale.

Barbour jackets can be finicky about cleaning (waxed cotton can’t really be washed), so if you are sure you’re going to be getting really messy, they may not be a great option But I’ve had my sapper for 8 years (including two small kids) and it still looks great

Cool My size small will fit my size 36 chest plus a thick sweater That adds 2 inches to my chest circumference

I just literally hose mine off any time it gets too dirty. As long as you don’t soak it with soap it shouldn’t hurt it.

Oooh I love field jackets. Big fan of Spier & Mackay as well as Epaulet. For winter, get one in wool. Classic would be brown, tan, navy, charcoal, less classic is ... pretty much all the others, but still great - olive, rust, ochre, lighter gray, speckled tweedy in various shades, etc
