Octopus 1.1 detected but unrespnsive
Hey everyone,
I´m having big problems setting up Klipper on my mainboard.
The problem: Donig the RatOS configure?step=1 I need to flash klipper to my Octopus. Doesn´t matter if I do it via SD card (always on the first try) or flash automatically (available after the first try). It always comes down to "Octopus V1.1 detected but is unresponsive.
Klipper doesn't seem to be running on your board, which may indicate faulty firmware or a faulty board. Please check your board and try flashing it again." In this window Mainsail always has a green light at the top. Klipper sometimes does - i have no clue why, cause it never works.
Steps I´ve taken:
Disconnect all Jumpers/wires from the board
Update the DFU Bootloader via BTT´s instructions
Reinstalled RatOS on the Pi (two times, 64 and 32 Bit)
Tried 3 known good USB-C to A Cables
Looked at the dmesg -w (seems fine to me: Product: STM32f466xx, Manufacturer: Klipper, Serial Number: btt-octopus-11)
Tried BTTs Klipper Version via Micro SD
The printer configuration is empty, only including the ratrig standard. The ratrig standard config.
All had no effect on the erro and I didn´t get an insight on whats wrong.
I´m completly new to klipper and basically helpless at this point. Can someone help my, giving me further steps?

Make sure the pi has an internet connection while going through the initial setup. Klipper won't compile its c bindings correctly if not. I have no idea why this is a prerequisite, it just is.
That was my exact problem, thank you so mutch! I was fiddeling around for two days now, not making any progress 😵💫
But the behavior was wired afterwards too - the MB was found and okay, then it disconnected, then it was fine again. This loop took around ~5 Seconds and was endless. I was fast enough in one of the rounds to just klick "next" and it went away. Do I need to refresh the firmware.bin on the pi for safety or is that normal? Seems to be running fine for now ^^
If it's working, you can ignore it. Sounds very strange though!
But a lot of things could've gone wrong from the attempts without an internet connection, i'm guessing a reflash would probably have solved it.
I will build in a connection check in the configurator for 2.1 so that you're told it needs an active internet connection during initial setup. Sorry that you had to spend so much time on that.
No problem at all, thank you so much for the quick answers and fix for my problem!
You're very welcome 🙂
@miklschmidt Is this network connection requirement for RatOS raspberry pi, Klipper and a octopus pro v1.0 control board needing a WiFi and/or Ethernet hardline? (I’ve tried with my phone as a hotspot but haven’t been successful)
Only during initial setup
But yes, it's a requirement for klipper to compile it's stuff.. I have no idea why.
