Trouser fit advice!

It's me again, continuing to smarten up my wardrobe. I bought some trousers for work from Uniqlo. I'm usually between a medium/large so I went with medium for bkth. Not convinced with the way the navy one looks. Might need to size up? Pretty happy with the grey one. Let me know what you think.

I would definitely size up on the navy ones. The grey ones look a lot better but they still seem to have a little bit of pulling in the top block so I think you could also go up a size there.

Thanks for your advice. If you don't mind me asking, what do you mean by pulling in the top block? Seems to fit me okay on the waist Uniqlo is a bit of a nightmare for me because as a 33inch waist, medium is 30-33 whilst large is 33-36.

What I mean is that the fabric looks like it's being pulled to the side rather than draping naturally. You can see it at the top of your zipper for example and around where your pockets are. It's hard to tell for sure from these pics. It doesn't look horrible or anything so if it feels good, go with your gut.

Oh do you mean like the button isn't facing straight on because it's tight and being pulled? It doesn't feel tight and there's elastication on the back. I think if I size up, it'll fall down my waist. It was happening to me all summer in my Uniqlo linen trousers which were L πŸ˜‚

Rather than pants that are too tight, you might instead wear a nice belt with pants that are slightly too large...? πŸ˜… it would certainly look "smarter" than flaring/pulling thighs and pockets and a bulging button.

Yeah exactly. I'm also team belt πŸ™‚

First pair is wayyy too tight. 2nd pair is much better but is too small still around the seat/hips. It’s kinda minor for a non-suit tho if you just wanna roll with it.

I think that first one, even sized up, just isn't going to work. It tapers so aggressively and just gives off the lycra asos sexcore dress pant look. Like the second one's fit tho!

1st pair is not it Don't bother sizing up, just return it, the cut is ridiculous 2nd pair looks fine

I guess when I size up, I'm worried that wearing a belt will bunch up the trousers making all these ugly creases and pleats. That's why I've read to always buy trousers that fit without a belt. Might be wrong though... Thanks for the advice so far, guess I'll just return the first trousers. But some people think trouser 2 looks too tight and others say it's fine thinkies am trying to lose weight and have started going to gym again so maybe my waist will go down lol

I didn't know trousers with an elasticated waist can be tailored? Also these only cost Β£40 so I'm not thrilled at the thought of spending Β£15-Β£20 getting them tailored keepincool

hot take, but if you're between sizes like this on elastic waist pants, maybe go with a non-elastic pair? ive had the same issue with uniqlo's pants - i generally wear size 29 or 30 waist and neither the small or medium looks quite right

Well I thought being 33 waist and with M/L including that size, a medium with elastic waist would be perfect ideally i would find a trouser that was 33inch waist. So if you have any recommendation for ones that wont break the bank, I'm all ears. Looking for grey, black and navy for work!

totally reasonable assumption. i thought the same when i tried them, especially since they were cheap, but they ended up never being worn and then donated to goodwill. i'm actually not much of a fan of uniqlo except for their underwear and generally only buy their stuff if its a ridiculous sale or if i need something basic in a pinch. been a while since i've shopped for those types of pants but maybe gap or banana republic might have some options in a similar price range. if youre brand agnostic, possibly check out a regular department store and try different options there?

I really like the fit of them though..I'm going to buy the large and then I'll post comparison pictures. Hopefully that will get us the right answer. When everyone says neither xd
