what’s an EOS overlay?
Just curious about what this means and if I need to install it?

It's the overlay that games from the epic games store use. You generally don't need to install it but if you do, it allows you to get achievements in games that support them, invite friends in online games like fall guys, and a couple other features that I might not be aware of as I don't use it too often
