Got it?

My railway app is not getting linked with my domain.

Hello everyone. I am new to programming and railway and whole making websites and setting up domain things. I read the available guides I could find from railway docs and here is what I did so far: I purchased a domain from godaddy. Then I created a cloudflare account. I changed the nameservers of my domain from my godaddy dashboard to the 2 nameserver addresses shown by cloudflare. Then after sometime I could see my domain on cloudflare and it showed my site is active on cloudflare. Then I went to my railway app settings and pressed "Add Custom Domain" and added my domain name (for example mydomain.com) and pressed "Add domain". Then it showed me a section saying "Configure DNS Records" and showed a CNAME value. Then I went to my cloudflare dashboard and then went to the DNS section and I tried to add the CNAME record as shown in railway by adding a "@" as the name and the target as the value which was shown in railway. Then when I pressed add, it did not get added and showed an error as "Cannot add DNS records with the same name". There was already two CNAME records (one with the name _domainconnect and one with www) in my DNS section along with two A records (The name of them was my domain's name and the contents were some ip address). So after this error, I tried to add the CNAME record again by deleting the existing two of my CNAME records but it still showed the same error. (It linked to me the guide https://developers.cloudflare.com/dns/manage-dns-records/troubleshooting/records-with-same-name). I will post the other part in the first comment. Discord says too long.

So as I understood from that above guide I thought my A records should be the issue so I deleted both of the A records too. Then I tried to add the CNAME again as shown in railway and it got added this time! Now in my cloudflare dashboard I can see that record under the DNS section. This all happened like 10 hours ago. Although still if I go to my domain, it does not show anything! In railway it says "Waiting for DNS update". Also I just noticed my domain is no longer shown in my go daddy dashboard? I do not know what is happening. Please help me! 61ad1cce-de6e-41f8-a6a7-3d3983a975ba This should be my project ID

yeah big big cloudflare issue, been happening all week. as for the domain not showing in godaddy.. did you transfer the domain or just use cloudflares nameservers?

I purchased the domain from one godaddy acccount and then transferred it to another godaddy account. Then from that new account I accepted it and after that went to the https://dcc.godaddy.com/control/dns section and changed the nameservers to the ones shown in cloudflare. The domain was shown even after I added it to clodflare. (It showed the namesrvers addresses I updated too. Although this was before deleting CNAME and A records from cloudflare.) Although now when I checked, like after 5 hours, the domain is completely disappeared from my dashboard. I do not see any mails about it too.

thats not an issue with railway, or cloudflare, you would need to contact godaddy support for that one

I see. Thank you for this. Although if you are able can you say what would be the correct process to do if I were to do this all over again with a new domain? What I want to know is what is the correct steps to do after purchasing the domain up to adding it to railway if I want to do it through cloudflare?

you did everything correctly, cloudflare is just simply having issues, a lot of issues

Cloudflare allows you to add domain right? So the incident with cloudflsre is resolved

pandas, they did their dns setup correctly

I would suggest remove domain from railway app, add it again and get new CNAME value

Brody•7mo ago
its not, this is not the first time ive seen this issue with cloudflare today
pandas

It was restored today so worth retrying if not latest tomorrow

Brody•7mo ago
you dont need www but you are right, it cant hurt to retry

Do we want to keep that www record if I were to do this all over again?
pandas
pandas•7mo ago
True but it is full proper setup for domain
Brody
Brody•7mo ago
maybe 20 years ago 🤣 just delete the cname from cloudflare, and your domain from railway, then add the domain back to railway and redo the dns setup in cloudflare
pandas
pandas•7mo ago
Does cloudflare add it automatically? www shouldn’t resolve if it wasn’t added explicitly
Brody
Brody•7mo ago
dont worry about the www if the root domain isnt even working yet lol pro, did you try what pandas has suggested? removing and reading the domain

Hello @Brody I think it was an issue with my domain on godaddy end. I purchased another domain and repeated the same process - changing nameservers to the ones given by cloudflare, adding the domain to railway and getting the CNAME, deleting all the DNS records of my domain through cloudflare and adding the CNAME given by railway as "@". I did all this 8 hours ago but I still see "Waiting for DNS update" in railway. I know it says to wait up to 72 hours but can you say how much time it will normally take until I can see the site thorogh my domain?

what is the new domain you have purchased? can you send a screenshot of the domain in railway and your dns settings in cloudflare?
