Alan Wake 2 CTD only in Saga story missions; Arch, Endeavour, 545 nvidia 4080, RTX features enabled

Hello, I've got a very peculiar problem - Alan Wake 2 crashes to desktop only during Saga (female character) missions. I run it with all possible nvidia features on (besides still unavailable frame generation) and it works great. I am on EndeavourOS, Nvidia 4080 with 545 drivers, x11, 32 gigs of ram - no other problem on my system. It might be more stable on Wayland, but I get many glitches and strange ghosting in fullscreen mode, so I stick to X11. The consistent line in every crash log is: 9952.466:00cc:01c0:err:vkd3d-proton:d3d12_command_allocator_Reset: There are still 1 pending command lists awaiting execution from command allocator iface 000000001a078840! My startup parameters: "autoInstallDxvk": true, "autoInstallVkd3d": true, "preferSystemLibs": false, "autoSyncSaves": true, "enableEsync": true, "enableFsync": true, "launcherArgs": "PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NGX_UPDATER=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11,dxr VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_2 VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_6 %command%", "nvidiaPrime": false, "enviromentOptions": [ { "key": "VKD3D_CONFIG", "value": "dxr11" }, { "key": "VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL", "value": "12_2" } Here is a link to the full log: https://pastebin.com/Wru2JEf3 Alan Wake story missions work flawless - Saga story missions encounter random crashes. Easy to replicate from my perspective - just run the game and play as Saga. I would be glad for any kind of help or advice πŸ™‚

"launcherArgs": "PROTON_ENABLE_NVAPI=1 PROTON_ENABLE_NGX_UPDATER=1 VKD3D_CONFIG=dxr11,dxr VKD3D_FEATURE_LEVEL=12_2 VKD3D_SHADER_MODEL=6_6 %command%",
get rid of all of this if you need these, put them as environment variables, not launcher arguments I would try without adding more than what you already have though

i'd personally start with a clean environment variables section tbh why are you setting these?

AFAIK it enables nvidia latest features like ray and path tracing, they were greyed out without it - however I am just copying them blindly from proton and I don't know if they even work the same way. I forgot to put it - I use wine-ge-8-22-x86_64 to run it. I will try to run the game later today with no env var - but the last time I did it - game still CTD during Saga segments however it was a few patches ago and on previous drivers (535) *game still CTD during Saga segments without meddling with enviromental variables

verify your files while you're at it

good point, thanks. I just left verification process alone to itself and when I got back there was no info or popup of any kind - this means everything is fine, right?

I believe so

Id start out getting the game to work without all the env vars first. I then once it works work on the ray tracing feature Good chance that perf with raytracing hardware on might still be pretty terrible

performance is on par with windows version - if you don't mind the lack of FG. It works really well with all features implemented the only problem is strange crashes only during Saga parts they persisted without meddling in env options during the launch weekend, on previous drivers so I just let the RT features on anyways I will try disabling them and run Saga missions when I get to my rig but IMHO it's some strange mesh shader issues during vulkan translation

it's probably a strange nvidia driver bug it works fine on AMD from what I have heard vkd3d-proton is able to convert everything with almost 100% accuracy, so problems won't lie there and it advertises dx12 ultimate now πŸ™‚ it also could be an issue with the vkd3d-proton that heroic ships actually lemme check it's a bit older than the latest master version

can confirm i had no trouble enabling RT on amd.. but the frame hit is awful on my card so i dont haha the game runs software ray tracing (some what kin to unreal's lumen) and it looks pretty good imo so im not torn up about it haha

yeah our vkd3d-proton should be fne vkd3d-proton 2.11 is releasing soon can't wait for all heroic users to magically just get RT enabled by default that would be pretty cool

that's what I suppose, but there was another patch today, I finished another part of Alan story, then tried to play a little with Saga - and so far it was going smooth is there any release window?

yeah it's soonℒ️ would say within like 2 weeks tho prolly

ok, update - game works fine out of the box without nvidia features, no crashes, glitches, bad performance or bugs but still - same for nvidia features all on, except strange crashes during only Saga gameplay so far I am turning them on when playing Alan and disabling when playing Saga disabling and enabling from env parameters πŸ˜‰
