Edited photo is iOS not getting replaced in immich

So I edit (in-place) a photo in iOS, I am expecting the edited photo syncs to immich and replaces the original photo. Is that not the intended behavior? If not, may I know what's the current behavior (seems the edited photo is never uploaded to immich) and if there is plan to change/improve the current behavior?
