Can't run Alan Wake II on Deck
I've tried checking a few tutorials, both video and written, reinstalled the game a couple times, , put the vram down to 256m, got the d3d 43 and 47 stuff as well as that other vcrun2022 thing and the game still doesn't even open, heroic says it opened, but it never actually shows up or anything. I really don't know what else to do here, i even checked most if not all the threads on the game in here.

First of all, send in a game log. Might also want to delete your Wineprefix to "start fresh"

I don't know how to do that log part, sorry!
I'll delete the prefix now
Right, please read #:pushpin: Read Me First | Frequently Asked Questions then (at minimum read the first message; but all of the info in there is helpful to know)

should be this right? unless i misunderstood something in there
@OOOOOF123 Do you happen to know what the last Wine version not affected by the reg bug is? Looks like that's the issue here
other-emerald•2y ago
It's not wine it's heroic
That has the bug
exotic-emeraldOP•2y ago
oh so it's a problem with heroic itself then? any idea what i could do to fix it?
The issue is that newer Wine versions prompt to overwrite the reg key instead, no?
other-emerald•2y ago
Yeah a contributor fixed it by adding /f to one of the reg commands
I think all versions should prompt for it but I might be wrong on that
If you want to work around it that way you could probably try wine-ge 7

alright i'll give it a shot! might take a bit but i'll report back after giving it said shot
Very sorry but I can't seem to figure out how to download that build? like I legitimately don't understand what I'm looking at here, very sorry if this is annoying I don't have much of a hand when it comes to these topics
You're good, this is definitely not the easiest of processes
- If you have a GitHub account, log into it. If you don't have one, create one (you sadly have to have an account to download artifacts)
- Open the link I sent. In the "Artifacts" section, click the "heroicgameslauncher-x86_64" artifact to download it
- Once the download is finished, unzip the archive. That should give you a
heroicgameslauncher.flatpak
file
- Open a terminal and run flatpak install --user Downloads/heroicgameslauncher.flatpak

hey sorry about the delay, good news! did get the game running!
bad news it's got that issue where a bunch of the textures don't load and the only fixes i saw online for it are the ones that did the nosteamlaunchers on steamdeck method
so i'm not sure how to go about the mesa thing on heroic, sorry for the constant asking
other-emerald•2y ago
flatpak remote-add --if-not-exists flathub-beta https://flathub.org/beta-repo/flathub-beta.flatpakrepo
flatpak install org.freedesktop.Platform.GL.mesa-git org.freedesktop.Platform.GL32.mesa-git
flatpak remote-delete flathub-beta
(so that you don't accidentally install stuff from there)
FLATPAK_GL_DRIVERS=mesa-git flatpak run com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl
make sure to close heroic firstexotic-emeraldOP•2y ago
