Japanese shirts have terrible fits?
I have tried to buy a few shirts from Japanese brands and all of them have the same exact problem. The sizes run insanely small, so I need an XXL instead of a usual M or L, and when it fits in the waist and neck, the arms and chest are still super long and skinny. Has anyone else noticed this problem?

Japan uses a different sizing system, just find conversions online or actual measurements
Different sizing system as Japanese people are on average smaller/thinner. as a on over generalization. You have to convert sizes a lot.
even then the arms tend to be shorter or shoulders narrow in my limited experience
there's a lot of varaiance as obviously the japanese target market is the japanese. not whatever country we're from
See the problem is even when I do find measurements, the sleeves are still too skinny, and sleeve circumference is a measurement that almost no company ever gives out. I usually just go off chest circumference and that suffices for most American companies. I'm really not a fan of these Japanese super-slim fits.
Agree that sleeve width is nearly never listed. You kinda have to learn to eyeball it based on product photos. Not all brands will have slim sleeves.
Do you have recommendations for high quality flannel that doesn't fit like this? It doesn't have to be japanese, just say 8 ounce yarn dyed stuff that doesn't feel like asphyxiating
I’m not really a flannel guy myself, sorry. There should be others around that have recommendations.
3sixteen makes great flannels. I’m ~180 lbs and 5’10” and fit their large.
Japan men's alpha sizes are less consistent than US men's sizes, I feel like you can say that with confidence
