Games in general, through heroic have long start up times
I tried launching through many different wine and proton versions, from desktop, heroroic thorugh desktop and through steam os ui. Games include assassins creed directors cut, prince of perisa and another world (windows version). Absolute drift worked fine but that was installed in linux native mode

Long as in well over 5 mins
genetic-orange•2y ago
Ubisoft games like AC and Prince of persia have their own third party launcher in the middle, we can't speed that up
if you install the windows version of absolute drift, is it fast or slow?
(5 minutes still sounds like too much unless it's the first start that has to install the ubisoft launcher and updates)

Prince of persia was starting up pretty fast like a month or two ago, when I finished it. Will reinstall absolute drift
Also tried updating herioc, did not fix. tried running drive maintanance, nothing. Updated steam os, still happening

share the game logs for the ones that start too slow, maybe there's some information there that helps

Everything iis on ssd in 512gb lcd model
Absolute drift, windows is taking ages to startup. Waiting 2 minutes on windows version
How to get those logs? Thanks in advance
Btw its still loading

settings > logs > you should see the list of your games there
fair-roseOP•2y ago
Absolute drift just started right now
In Logs for games that take a long time there is a lot of
"ATTENION: default value of option vk_xwayland_wait_ready overridden by envirenment"
genetic-orange•2y ago
all windows games take long? share the beginning of one of the logs so we can see your settings
fair-roseOP•2y ago
All windows games through heroic, they are a bit slow through steam but its generally under a minute and not 10 minutes

log looks fine
fact that you are using proton might be an issue
fair-roseOP•2y ago
I am not installing windows on my steam deck haha
Issue also happens when trying wine
genetic-orange•2y ago
if you click play on a game and open the log you should see it populate while the game boots, maybe doing that it's more clear what's taking long (like if you click play and all that is already there in the log the that's not the issue, but if you seee it stuck for a while for some specific line then that can help

Tried ac again and while still waiting for it to load I am getting wine: RLIMIT_NICE is <= 20, unable to use setpriority safely

Here is the heroic log:

Share a log when trying with Wine-GE-Proton, logs from proton are not that useful
fair-roseOP•2y ago
It took 3 minitutes for wine configuration box to appear

Game still did not start properly

is it slow for Epic games too? the ones you shaerd are from GOG and I see this takes 10 minutes between entries:
well maybe this is unrelated though, those are note when launching the game I think
fair-roseOP•2y ago
Some of those messages seemed to suggest to me that auth for gog is going wonky but then I should not been able to install it at all
genetic-orange•2y ago
one thing that sometimes happens to me on the deck is that I click Play and there's some previous wine server process stuck in the background, can you check and make sure no
wineserver
process is running before you click play?fair-roseOP•2y ago
It even happen straight after boot
genetic-orange•2y ago
maybe you can try running some game using lutris? to understand if heroic is doing something wrong or if it's wine
fair-roseOP•2y ago
I tried uninstalling heroic already. Is there a way to competely purge a flatpak? Maybe some corropted files were left behind
Btw same issue with an epic game
genetic-orange•2y ago
I think you can delete
.var/app/com.heroicgameslauncher.hgl
and that should clear all your config and wines
it won't delete games nor prefixesfair-roseOP•2y ago
Same issue even after removing that folder. Had to relogin to services so I know I deleted the right one and also had to reinstall the game
I found a workaround, after starting up the game I put the steamdeck into sleep and then wake it up, after 5 seconds the game starts up
Anyone would have an idea what's going on?
genetic-orange•2y ago
have you tried using something with wine outside heroic? like lutris
sounds like the issue is related to wine
metropolitan-bronze•2y ago
I've been having the exact same issue. Both EGS and GOG games and even the same workaround of putting my deck to sleep and waking it again seems to work.
I think it might not so much be putting it to sleep but potentially a connectivity/authentication issue? I'm testing with some small games like Horizon Chase Turbo and A Short Hike and if I turn off the wifi they boot straight away as well. That might be why putting the deck to sleep seems to work because there's that short window where the wifi has to reconnect. I otherwise have no issue with signing in/downloading or anything else connectivity related.
I feel like it might have been something in the 3.5 update? I first noticed the issue when trying set up my OLED deck from fresh. I switched over to my LCD deck on which I had no issue and didn't touch a single thing except for updating to 3.5 and sure enough I was getting the same issue on that one now as well. I can play games fine through lutris.
Just to add on to the previous I tried a hotspot out of interest and my games seem to work fine. I then connected back to my main wifi and changed the DNS settings to 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 and everything seems fine there now too.
Not sure if that helps you OP or I just went off track entirely, but thanks for pointing me in the right direction with the sleep mode because it was driving me insane.
