If I "nglide settings" leaving all by default, I get this (after a splash video and running the game through the menu window - safe mode - that opens or even running safe mode directly) :

OK I fiddled a bit more and managed to launch the game (menu) through the launcher and selecting the renderer... but then I quit to set the display back away from "preserve aspect" and now I can't find that launcher anymore...
OK, "forcing" it now seems to do the trick.
