Deliver Us Mars Epic Games freezes Linux Mint

Hi out there, for 3 days now, I am trying to get Deliver Us Mars to run with different settings: Proton 7, 8 and Experimental, but also Proton-GE 8.25 and latest from Heroic launcher tab. With every setting I changed there were little changes: for example Proton 7 seemed to run better and more fluently than newer Proton versions 🤷‍♂️ But the main problem did not change: After the intro sequence completed with round about 10-11 FPS Linux Mint freezes and the cursor goes super-slow-mo (if movable at all) for a good 3-5 minutes until the game process gets killed by the system. (btw. Steam is running in background) (I also made sure libvulkan-dev, vulkan-tools, the official wine dependencies and libspirv-cross-c-shared-dev are installed) If any idea how to fix that, feel free to share Details and logs:

don't use GE-Proton, use Wine-GE-latest and try it again also please confirm what folder you installed the game into because I'm seeing this in the log, which indicates a lack of folder permissions:
File 'Z:/run/user/1000/doc/eedfa24/DeliverUsMarsLinux/DeliverUsMars/DeliverUsMars/Plugins/Streamline/Binaries/ThirdParty/Win64/sl.common.dll' is signed by NVIDIA and the signature was verified.

Thanks for the hint first (the game is installed on an external m2-SSD connected via USB), the issue still persists with Wine-GE-latest. New logs:

try enabling Prefer System Libraries

Now it seems like I won't get the new logs, due to mint being frozen for good 12 minutes with no sign to unfreeze

well, that sounds bad that said, Mint + Nvidia sounds like a match made in hell

Mostly it works very well together, at last for what I did. Had to do a sysReq reboot. Btw. yesterday I got a RAM overflow error for the game in the syslogs.
