Morjas

Looking at these loafers but I have no idea what Morjas sizing or what this leather is. The description only says calf but I'm wondering if it's bookbinder or something else treated, which is something I don't really want. I messaged about it and they said they use "box calf leather of full grain standard from different tanneries in southern Spain" and that they're "[not] polished in production the same way as you would with shoe cream and wax after purchase, but it is definitely treated and impregnated." I only have one pair of loafers to reference (Grant Stone) and they fit great (7.5D US). Should I go the same size UK (7UK)? Any help would be great! https://www.morjas.com/product/the-archive-the-penny-loafer-burgundy-calf-1844/

I have a pair of suede loafers from them in size UK8. I usually wear 42/42.5 shoes. My feet length is just under 27cm, I have narrow ankles, but the front area of my feet is somewhat wide (~10.5cm). The loafers are a reasonably good fit, however, there’s a bit of heel slippage (interestingly with my longer foot), they’re not very tight. But they’re comfortable in the front, which was my problem with Meermin’s loafers for example.

I don't have a pair but I've read that Morjas used poor quality leather. I think they started using better quality this year but I haven't seen any results from anyone as to whether it's better quality now or not

According to them they started using a different source for leather in 2022. Afaik they use Weinheimer tannery now. I also saw horrifying pictures of ‘older’ Morjas shoes with cracks, because of this I’d be a bit reluctant buying from their archive sale, but maybe those are already with the new leather. If you want to make sure, you could ask them about the specific pair, they were very responsive in the past. Oh, but I see now in OP that they said to you that the full grain leather is from Spain. Last year they told me that they switched from a tannery in Spain to Weinheimer. So, either they changed again, expanded, or the shoes you were asked about are built with leather from the previous tannery they used.

It sucks because I really like some of their models but there's no way I'm taking the risk

I agree but at this point I’d rather save for Aldens. The Morjas prices seem like they rose by 25% since I bought the shoes too
