How long is your coat? When I'm out in public, most coats I see on guys are above the knee. I've never worn a coat, but I just bought 2 and they go below my knees. Will it look out of place?
Long is functional. Precise length is subject to both trends and preferences. Longer is not "off trend" today but if it were I would still recommend longer.
