Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart Controller

I have Heroic installed on my steam deck and have multiple games installed and working. They are automatically added to Steam and I play them via game mode. I installed Ratchet and Clank Rift Apart but this one isn’t working like the rest. This game isn’t recognizing the steam deck input as a controller. It thinks only a keyboard and mouse is connected. I can only control by holding the Steam button and moving the trackpad. No other buttons change anything in the game. In the heroic settings for the game, I chose proton ge latest. Are there any thoughts of what could be going on?

I just swapped to wine ge latest in the heroic settings for the game, and I deleted the prefix folder and launched it again. Still the same issue so far. I don’t know if I needed to do anything extra though to make that whole swap to wine work.

on the steam deck you can define custom controller layout for each game, have you tried that? it's not a proper fix I guess but maybe works as a workaround

@arieljuod I could do a custom controller layout and do something like a keyboard layout that remaps to controller, but that wouldn’t be ideal because it would be using wasd mapping to a joystick instead of proper joystick mapping. It makes me think that something is wrong with the Steam overlay or something with this game. When you first start it, it starts with a launcher. I can disable that. But then in addition to that, it also has a popup that tells me that the drivers are out of date which makes me think that maybe the Steam overlay isn’t working properly on the game or something and working on that initial popup or something? I don’t know I ended up refunding the game and getting it on Steam instead. The game uses Steam input natively and had a dialouge letting me know that when I launched it for the first time on Steam. So I am assuming maybe this was causing an issue running it as a non Steam game via heroic through Steam.
