DB length
Hello, just received this PRL DB jacket and need some advice as to whether it can be shortened 1” without compromising the balance of the jacket too much.
It’s vintage and I already had pants in the matching fabric, so I was ecstatic to find it in good condition in my size. From the measurements, it should have fit pretty spot on, but upon trying it on, it is a bit too long.
I’ve pinned it up 1” from the jacket hem just to see how it would look. Also need to get the sleeves shortened and take in the waist a touch. But what do you think? How does it look?

Hmm do you have any pictures with it unpinned? DB jackets are usually a little longer, so it's original length might be fine tbh
I don’t. But unpinned, it extends past my fingertips, which is why I thought it would look better an inch shorter. That, and it makes my legs look more proportionate
I wanna see back pinned. I wanna see front, back, side unpinned. Body length is measured against the body, not fingers - the fingers thing is a (literal) rule of thumb that's more of a shortcut than anything else. If you grab the back hem and press it against your seat, does it fully cover it? Does it extend to your rear thighs and if so by how much?
I think length is fine. It looking boxy is what caught my eye the most
Here’s the images you requested. I put them side by side to make it easier to compare. Left is pinned, right is unpinned. Both cover my seat. The unpinned reaches about an 1.5 inches below my seat
Well, I agree that pinning it up ~1 inch looks better. I am unsure if it is a feasible alteration. Given the "square" bottom (versus a highly rounded quarter) I assume it can be done. I like it. Take in the waist slightly, sleeves slightly, you'll be a happy camper.
Awesome, thanks for your opinion 🙏
Here’s the after photos in case anyone’s curious. Jacket body shortened, sleeves shortened, waist taken in, pants widened
Oh fantastic mate! Good job, looks solid
