What brand alternatives/item alternatives work and what ones don't? Can you replicate a brand "look" without that brand?

yes and no, and it largely has to do with where you draw the line at replica and genre-similar
it's easier to do in more niche-favorable aesthetics where most people aren't going to recognize the different garments and just recognize the general shapes and palettes
if you have baiehclaca socc runners, people are gonna ID them pretty quick
but it's hard to ID a rick long tee, layered under other stuff, against something like archival void the brand or julius
Super brand dependent too
Everyone says the best ald looks dont have any ald in them
Any brand that “plays the hits” is gonna be pretty replicable
Designer brands that are pretty vintage inspired like AM gucci theres some wiggle room to supplement with vintage as well but youre limited in what you can do
I always wanted a JJVE puffer from FW21, but they were out of my budget at retail and I hadn’t seen any secondhand (until recently…still might buy…)
A month or two ago I happened upon this “similar” coat from a small Canadian brand that has kind of got the job done, especially when layered.
