install vcrun2022 using Winetricks (settings > wine tab > winetricks > search "vcrun2022" > install > wait > close dialogs > launch game again)

Had the same issue except when I downloaded the vcrun2022 it was aborted. What do I do?

try installing vcrun2020 or 2019

is there an error when it's aborted?

another option is to download the visual C runtime installers (64 and 32bits) and install them using the Run Exe in Prefix option

I noticed if steam is running it breaks wine sometimes. In my case closing steam let me install vcrun

I'm having issues with this too, still not able to install the c++ exe. I've tried installing 2019 and it broke too. Tried using the "run exe on prefix" and it says it can only install on windows 7 devices or newer. When I try to install the vcrun2022 it comes back with "command wine vc_redist.x86.exe /q returned status 1. Aborting."
Not sure what's going on... it also says "Gtk-Message: 18:44:05.131: Failed to load module "canberra-gtk-module" afterwards too....

steam deck runs steam pretty much always, you were for sure out of it in desktop mode?

Yep, but I might have just figured it out. It looks like I had turned on "enable steam runtime" for whatever reason. Turning that off solved the problem and the game now works!
