If you’re growing definitely buy the bigger size
Medium might fit better now but you’ll eventually grow out of it and be mad that you won’t be able to wear it anymore
idk though 17 is on the later end of growth spurts

Also a large at 5'6" must be huge
Not to be "model 6'0" wearing an xs" but I'm 5'10" and I'm a medium
Are you sure you're currently a medium?
Do you have a cheap measuring tape lying around
Uniqlo literally provides measurements on a per garment basis
Something only independent mid market menswear stores tend to do
Just look at measurements on the webpages and compare to your best fitting garments u already own
I mean he's 17 he might have no idea what "best fitting" even means visually
Then he can ask?

I bought them and they arrived today
Medium shirt and medium jumper fit well
And I love them
It looks so good
