Big City, lots of AI/Automated startups, possibly good media coverage, or even celebrity support. Need protesters. Scouting interest for meetup/action.
Seconded, although I'm from San Diego. These groups should be combined for now given PauseAI's small size. Locally, there's also the San Diego Rationality meetup (for san diego and irvine). There's also UC Irvine EA.
I'm in! Tell me what to do. My email is williamjwilson@gmail.com I have a background in political organizing and if I don't get hired for the presidential campaign(started looking for a job late in the game), i've got a good amount of time to help build the movement here in LA>
@glitchp @bgoldman Hey guys I just discovered pause AI and i'm trying to help get things off the ground here. Are you interested in figuring out a strategy and doing some outreach work?
The goal of this guide is to empower people β everyday citizens who lack any background in lobbying or advocacy, but who are concerned about AI β to meet with their elected officials directly and make their concerns heard as effectively as possible.
I'm setting up meetings with Wendy Carillo, Anthony Portantino and Elena Durazo, State Rep and Senators, for this month. Is anyone interested in joining me? Also, getting 20 flyers printed up for initial outreach in the community. We need to start getting contact info from people who are interested in joining the effort and build the org out in LA. Anyone down to strategize and work on this goal?
Not here. I engage my colleagues in discussions, but "Pause AI" would seem going way too far for most of them right now. I personally like the slogan, but it also puts a lot of people off.
I participated in a few lobbying meetings with my local MoC on the topic of a carbon fee and dividend (Lou Correa at the time). It seems that in my case the relevant names for California are
"Look up your two representatives here. Visit their website and find their contact phone number Call them and say the following: βHi, I am a constituent in your district. I wanted to call and voice my support for SB 1047. I think responsible development for AI is very important, and I hope that [MEMBER] votes in favor of SB 1047.β"
SB 1047 encourages AI innovation while safeguarding against possible risks. Join Senator Wiener and take action to support a safe and secure AI ecosystem.
Other LA people in the server - would you like to go on a hike? When it's a stressful time, going to griffith and being in nature for a bit is always a good reset.
