Business Casual Boots
I'm looking for a good pair of boots that could fit in a business casual setting <$400. Should be brand new pair.
I usually go in chinos & a polo. Appreciate any recommendations for specific boots from the various brands.

For that price range I would check out Grant Stone, Loake, Trickers outlet, Meermin, Myrqvist, Allen Edmonds
I feel like there’s something I’m missing that’s an obvious choice but I’m tired 😭
Also Carmina, Carlos santos, TLB Mallorca, Lof & Tung, midas bootmaker
Thanks, I was actually looking at Grant Stone - but a little torn on which style to choose.
There's the Diesel which leans a little rugged and the Chelsea that's more on the dressy side. Not sure what would fit better in a work environment, specially after showing these boots some love lol
I love Chelsea’s, and my GS Chelsea’s are some of my least favorite Chelsea’s. I still wear them very often, but I dislike how wide they are at the throat and how that interacts with the width of the last at the heel (read: your heel may slide about if you’ve got skinny feet) - that said, I wear them to the office a good bit, especially if I’m swapping shoes a lot
I think most of GS’s lasts need some development, but of all the brands above, they’re definitely what I’d place 1st.
The Edward model is a bit dressier than the diesel, and the split toe is a bit more interesting. There’s also a cap toe boot that’s intended to actually be dressier as well that looks pretty good.
GS Lasts do need help
Try RM Williams too
thanks for the advice on the Chelseas, I get your point and yeah, I may have some heel slippage
didn't realize the GS lasts have issues... I'm fairly new to looking at boots, but see them mentioned everywhere on youtube
What we mean when we say that is that in the eyes of a footwear enthusiast there's clear room for improvement. Compared to pretty much everything else in that <$500 price range, their lasts are perfectly fine.
One of the main things you pay for after that threshold is the extra time and effort spent on last design.
It’s definitely very much a late-game worry. All of those brands are going to have lasts that could be improved — I’m just not particularly a fan of the GS Chelsea last, but as the same time it’ll be better than the vast majority of other shoes
And, like I said, I’m still wearing them pretty often. Really a non-issue in the grand scheme of things, but they do have cooler boots
Try the cap toe? It's basically the Diesel but looks more polished. If you want a Chelsea but aren't loving the GT style, I'd highly recommend the comfort craftsman from RM Williams. It's basically the gold standard Chelsea.
What colors are you thinking of? I get alot of mileage out of black chromexcel with natural leather welt and trimmings, the inclusion of the brown really helps make it more wearable and easier to dress down into business casual
Do you live somewhere with snow/a lot of rain? They have danite sole options, but most of their offerings are leather sole at GS
thanks... tbh the lace up style appeals more to me. I think the Edwards look pretty good
Was thinking of a dark brown/reddish pair
And I'm in NYC, so we do get some rain every now and then. But seems like GS have a lot of rubber sole options now.
I hear a lot of good things about color 8 chromexcel, I think they have some good options with that leather.
I do believe you could go to standard and strange and give some GS a try. Should be on Mulberry right by the Aime Leon Dore
nice, was gonna be around that area this weekend anyway
I have the GS Brass Boot in black chromexcel. They were a hit in my NYC-business-casual setting.
Grant Stone as others have said would be good. Alternatively, the Byron boot from Rancourt especially at presale prices
any experience with #8 irl? it seems an intense deep red in product shots, but wondering how it looks under regular lighting
cool, personally I find the toe box too bulbous looking. side profile is nice though
glad you and your work colleagues are enjoying 'em lol
Not really, but I'd say #8 is to red what navy is to blue, subtly versatile
gotcha, nice analogy!
Color 8 is just burgundy and very versatile
