clothing pieces for college kid outfits
Currently I have grey black light blue stone jeans and light khaki pants, all from levis. Jackets I have one zara puffer, one dark red bomber, some puffy ass blue columbia puffer for the cold, one brown varsity, some ugly brown adidas jacket, one nice pink shacket and one cream overshirt. Absolutely suck at tees and mid layer, random graphic tees and two sweaters, one nice cozy turtleneck and one nice round neck knit.
I have a lot of sneakers but a lot of them are hard to style (teal high top af1, sacai tan blazers, some yellow ish forum highs, some green/brown nbs etc. I cant really style) but I have white 97s 90s bone sail dunks jordan 4 sbs and black vans brown converse ultraboosts etc. that should be more stylable. But I don't have the all white sneaker and the all black sneaker. No loafers or boots, no birken sandals or classy things.
Hoodies I have dark green grey nikes grey or cream I think essentials some black graphic ones and some random champion ones joggers I have black grey etc. One really nice dark maroon one thats pretty much it.
What do I need to make sure I can build nice outfits and get the most bang for the buck?

I really like black chuck 70s and white reebok club Cs for my white and black sneakers
I was about to get club Cs
Af1 does boost height but I think they are too common
Keep an eye out for good prices, got mine for $65 from an independent seller on Amazon
I saw some for really cheap like 50 ish
Mine are the club c 85 vintage btw
But there are so many variants I dont know which is the best leather
Yeah thats the thing
Vintage is better no?
I don't think the leather matters, more so the color scheme/design
Ahh
Cause that one also had some blue
Kinda weird looking
But I am confused at my tops/mid layer I think
Because I don't like the super street look but also not the super dressy look cause it's hard to maintain everyday
Just to get a feel of things because from your initial assessment you came across as very lost but now you show here a bit more of knowledge: Are you into fashion as a hobby?
See all my life I used to wear whatever I had lol
Zero sense of outfits and colors
same
But now I am trying to get into it
Like the other day for the first time I wore some nice black joggers with a green hoodie and green shoes and my backpack was green too
You're in need of blank tees?
So my outfit kinda matched
And that felt amazing lmao
I recommend Uniqlo U but don't get too many blank tees cuz they can get boring
I guess I don't have nice blank tees as undershirt
Wdym by undershirt
Not undershirt
Like the tee you show with your zip open
So I guess plain white and black should do the job
Yah Uniqlo U in plain white and black
So for now I guess plain black white tees and club c
And long sleeve t in white and heather gray
Hmm okay
Could layer the short sleeve tees over the long sleeves ones
Are the polo sweaters/long sleeve collared button less sweaters hard to style
I will not speak for this community because I'm here a short time myself, but it seems that old MFA had a real belief on an universal basic wardrobe that, although it has been revamped for 2023, is much less "enforced" as people noticed that what is basic varies in culture and context. Dunno if you're making your choices based on that.
Nah I just like these ig
Like my essentials hoodie and sb jordans are cool but they don't appeal to me as much as a long polo sweater black jacket and club Cs
If that makes sense
I can't seem to find that guide yet but it had a good paragraph that helped me (I'm also early on this thing)
The guides confuse me lol
Is that we're always dressing to make some impression on some group
Thats true
And it's good to stop and check what impression you're trying to make and on whom
Yeah I feel like Im going through that phase a bit
Cause I used to just wear gym clothes everywhere
But now Im looking at people around me and they have good fits
Long sleeve polos are cool
Tho they may be harder to figure out as a beginner? The cotton knit ones j crew sells aren't bad (tho they're short sleeve)
Yeah they are kinda harder to style
Jacket wise am I good tho or am I missing stuff
I also ordered a patagonia retro x fleece
That's a nice gorpware item
Whatcha think about chunky sweaters?
Like the super thick knit ones?
Yah tho not necessarily super thick
I love the ones where the round neck is like very solid and stays strong and thick
I dont like the loose neck ones
Look up Shetland sweaters
This is the j crew knit polo I was thinking about but it's sold out anyway
Thats nice yeahh
But what to wear with this tho
As knit polos go it's easier to style cuz full placket and some texture in the design
You need slim pants for this right
Cause my jeans are more relaxed casual fit not really skinny
And I don't have chinos ðŸ˜
Not at all
Avoid slim pants at this stage imo. More of an advanced item to style cuz they're off trend
Thats good then
But I should get some chinos or slacks right
Or are jeans fine
Not necessarily
Jeans are great
Tho you prob want some sort of other pants tho it may not necessarily be chinos
You said you have light khaki pants?
Yeah only those
I saw some old navy pants on sale for super cheap not sure how they are
Do you want to fit in and look handsome, or do you want to look different? Cozy, sexy, cool or more than one? Are you trying to rebel? Rebel from what? Gender norms? The establishment? Your parents? etc.
Not a rebel, I guess just fit in, not sexy but more cozy/clean casual but not too cozy
Just saying this because I also went here looking for the basics and then noticed first that what this community considers as basics is a bit different from what is the standard where I live for men my age on my class
What type of pants are they?
I'd usually avoid Old Navy lol tbh
Some levis tapered pants
Chinos I think
and that I didn't actually want to look basic I was just trying to get easy answers to how to look good lol
I used to wear chinos a lot actually but then started wearing sweatpants and got too used to them
Whatcha think about Dickies pants?
Like workwear?
Not really a fan of like heavy cargo or workwear but normal pants are nice id say
Although I've never tried them, just basing off looks
Dickies 874 are more subtle work wear imo
I would spend a bit of time of conscious peoplewatching what the group you are trying to fit in (seems to be students in your class) wear
like on my college we have 4 campus within 5 minutes of eachother
The people I hang out with are like strictly three clothing groups lol, one is like loafers slim pants shirts and ralph lauren other is like new balance sweats hoodies and street and the last is whatever you put together which is where I fall
Im scared of getting these pants cause I feel like I'll mess up the ironing
But the business students dress mostly preppy, the physics and math students go with low-budget basics, the compsci students are either completely senseless or into basic monochromatic streetwear (which is mid-budget basics where I live) and the biology students usually have more creativity and fashion taste so they're not as homogenous
Like office pants
Nahh dw about that
They have that one line in the middle right
When you get them new
After wearing that line goes away and I can't iron it back
Also dont you need like shoes with these pants and not sneakers?
So if I went preppy basics into a math class I would just look like a fratboy i.e.
Um I don't agree with this stuff about majors and what they wear tbh lol
I really wouldn't worry about that
Not necessarily
It's an example on how clothes differ on context
(which happens to be a real life example)
Yeah Ik that, thats why I feel like the cozy casual but clean look goes with my context
From clubbing to business casual events
And house parties
But yeah I do feel the need of club cs
That fixes a lot of things lol
I also liked these a lot https://www.newbalance.com/pd/550/BB550PHD-D-105.html?ecid=ps_Google_pla_196652956892_19759027876&crtp=paidsearch&ncr=true&gad_source=1&gclsrc=ds
But dont think theyll serve the purpose of white af1 or the vintage club cs
(of a public university in Brazil which usually house a good diversity on students and also social strata. Don't take it wholesale to majors in UK or something because then the example won't work)
If this is what works for you go ahead, unfortunately I won't be of much help in individual pieces
As you have a puffer and you're getting a fleece
Thinking climbing pants could be cool. What do you think of gramicci climbing pants?
love nb suede stuff, have a pair of 1906d protection packs that i love and wear all the time
