Dauntless crashing after Stack Smashing detection - Desktop
Hey, so recently I tried to get back into Dauntless after swapping to Linux, but I've run into some crashing issues.
Initially I tried tons of workarounds but only recently learned how to check logs, and after doing so I've found the source of the issue: Stack Smashing.
Does anyone know of further workarounds for Stack Smashing issues to help prevent crashes?
I'll attach logs just in case someone needs to look deeper into it.
I have already fiddled around with most of the in-app settings- multiple Proton/Proton-GE versions, Steam Runtime, etc- if it makes a difference, because in practice it has not prevented any crashes/smashing.

dont use proton, use wine-ge, proton doesnt relaly give you logs. Delete your prefix
remove the extra environment variable options
Before you start the game with wine-ge, open heroic's advanced settings and select "apply known winetricks fixes"

alrighty, giving these a shot, however on launch after deleting the prefix files, Wine just automatically restores prefixes it seems? Not sure how to stop this from just restoring everything. I don't think I've done it right 😅

yeah Im getting worse results after switching to wine-ge
enviromment variable is gone, had that there because someone else who got Dauntless to work on Steamdeck mentioned it might be worth a shot.
apply winetrick fixes is already enabled

Its supposed to recreate after deleting the prefix, that was the point
turn on dxvk and vkd3d
you probably want to enable dxvk-nvapi as well
genetic-orangeOP•16mo ago
oh so to fully refresh it, I understand now, turned off the other things because my brain said maybe they were causing the auto update..

you need dxvk for dx9 - dx11 and vkd3d for dx12 support
and dxvk-nvapi for nvidia (things like dlss)
granted on your gpu probably doesnt do much

well, still crashing
back to square one: stack smashing
genetic-orangeOP•16mo ago
was just trying to change my settings back from default 🤷

You need glibc-eac to fix this I think
genetic-orangeOP•16mo ago
hm, I'll have a look into that, it seems to be made for a Arch system, think it'd work on Mint?
stormy-gold•16mo ago
Won't work on mint unfortunately

"enviromentOptions": [ { "key": "PROTON_EAC_RUNTIME", "value": "/home/gallerine/.steam/debian-installation/steamapps/common/Proton EasyAntiCheat Runtime" } ],Remove this
"name": "Proton - GE-Proton8-30",Use Wine-GE

Yeah we went over that in the first posts
Think the latest log should show it

Discord boomed me. I didn’t see the follow up comments until just now

Ahhhh
Yeah my internet is being wonky too
genetic-orangeOP•16mo ago
I guess I'll mark this as unsolvable, rip
jolly-crimson•16mo ago
as per oof's comments probably not.. mint uses some pretty ancient kernels, which an probably also be problematic for a few reasons
but the only way out of that is to not use mint heh
latest bleeding edge mint does have a more up to date kernel, not sure if this improves anything
ambitious-aqua•16mo ago
I use mint an it opens, but I use an updated kernel so it could be that
