Games on Steam Deck softlocking/hanging
Hi, I recently tried two of my epic games games on steam deck, specifically Severed Steel and Sable. Both of them hang on a blank screen while music/sound effects continue to play. On Severed Steel, i was able to open the pause menu and select ‘skip’ and I got in game, making me think that the games are hanging when trying to play a video file for a cutscene. I’ve tried multiple of the proton versions and nothing seems to change. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

Game settings in heroic > other (I think), I think you have to use
wine-ge
for that option to show up though, you can install Wine-GE-Proton using the Wine Manager section in heroicharsh-harlequin•16mo ago
Run the game while in desktop mode. it could be waiting for browser authentication to be completed
and to reinforce the above, use Wine-GE-latest

Ah yeah that was the issue thanks for the help
Can I ask what the advantage is to using Wine rather than proton?

Proton is not intended to be run outside of Steam
more often than not, failures to run the game can be attributable to having been run with Proton instead of Wine-GE

One last question - when adding sable to steam it’s picked the complete wrong art for another game of the same name. Do you know the best/easiest way to change the art? I know there’s a plugin for decky loader but I want to keep my install as vanilla as possible.

that Decky plugin is the best way
if you refuse to use the plugin or less user-friendly browser extension, you can always manually place images into the folder in which custom art is stored

Nah if theres no other easy way I’ll use decky. Cheers for the help

~/.steam/steam/userdata/<steamID>/config/grid/
you could also do it through Steam itself
it's slightly better than manually dropping images into the folder
it's still not good
