Restrict game on VRAM usage.

Hi there, im having some major issues with SC as it loves to eat all my VRAM, can i limit it with Heroic? That would be awesome if i can.

Most games let you control this from within them Just use lower res textures and stuff like that

Sadly with SC, that doesn't work. Still fills up the VRAM usage, plus puts a lot more data on the CPU making the game choppy

Tbh sounds like you should either lower visual fidelity or get a new gpu if you are running out of ram Lower the texture resolution, render resolution.. Those will impact ram most

"Limiting" both RAM and VRAM use doesn't really work like that; applications will request as much as they need. If there's no more available, unless the app specifically handles this case, it'll just crash So other than convincing the app to use less resources or somehow making more of that resource available (for example by getting newer hardware), you can't do anything about this

you cannot limit vram like that if the game truely needs it then it will just move everything over to ram some games are dumb and will unnessessarily eat vram and by reducing reported vram size you can get them to allocate less

That's what im trying to do, is to get it not to eat my 12gb VRAM so my system doesn't crash.

like i was saying, to reduce game's use of video memory, you have to lower settings. Literally that is the only way by reducing texture size, it puts less pressure on vram, by lowering rendering resolution and using an upscaler like dlss or fsr, removing complex shader effects/posprocessing but if the game has a leak in vram, this wont really help you long run as you'll just keep running out regardless and that is on the devs to fix just try flooring every visual setting in the game, see if it still happens, if it does, its a bug in the game and the developers will have to address it. Thankfully SC is still in alpha (somehow :P) so report the bug
