I've participated in a few grassroots flyer posting campaigns. Some pointers:

Where to print?
Ask your college friends if they have spare printing quota to their college printers, or get them printed at a print shop (compare prices).

Tools:
Either A) stabler gun for stabling onto wooden surfaces,
or
B) wallpaper paste, a wide brush, and a bucket for the paste.
Note: You can make our own DIY wallpaper paste -- it's just wheat flour and water, boil in a pan, and voila! Works great. You can google the instructions but iirc its 9 cups water + 1 cup flour, add flour slowly and mix continuously to avoid clumping. When pasting, make sure to paste the edges too so haters cant rip them off easily.

Where to put them?
I would use some common sense: paste flyers where there are already flyers; don't paste onto windows of small business owners or people's home walls!
You can ask small shops if you can tape your flyers inside their shops (always ask!).
Public bulleting boards are good choices.

Friends:
Invite friends to join, or do it alone. Set a couple hours for a trip around town, and maybe even do it on different days at different parts of the town.

Law:
Check your local laws.
In my country, the police will give you a fine and confiscate your tools if you get caught (i never got caught!), but it's not a big deal. If it's your first time dealing with police, dont panic, don't talk other than to identify yourself. Check your local laws if uncertain.

Bypassers:
Bypassers might confront you about your vandalism, but in my experience most wont stick to bother you, and you can actually make friends with most if you laugh it off with a gentle joke.

Style of flyer?
No simple rule

Experiment and have fun with it. If you want consistent branding, do that. If you're doing it on your own, make it your own; it's your expression of your own free speech!
You could also carry different styles, and put up different flyers at different locations.

Something like

Click on the name of the design to select it
Under “Fill” in the right sidebar, enable “Show in exports”
Under “Export”, select the file type and click “Export [name]”
