Anyone willingly scale down from J3/J(x)? Any regrets? I have a pretty good setup with 3Js but I’m honestly working almost all day every day. My J2 is definitely the culprit, as the others are very low effort.

I need to quit this cancerous job and ideally replace it with another low effort J. For those that have quit, have you “collected checks” or is it worth it to just outright quit? Also, if ’m trying to replace, is it a better idea to land a J4 first and THEN quit? Onboarding a J4 while at 3 other J’s does sound difficult. I guess I’m still even considering if I want to continue 3Js. But surely there’s more jobs out there that are as low demanding as my J1/J3.

I collect checks; almost never worth quitting outright unless your mental health is easily affected by criticism (and not trying to be harsh here, totally respect if that’s the case). Worse case scenario you can call in sick for several days until they let you go.

In cases like this I try to setup block time on calendar for focusing and hire a VA to write detailed documentation to satisfy stakeholders while hiring a team of VAs to tackle a bunch of work. If that doesn’t help then the J might just be toxic so drop it. I also setup calls with internal development team and we all just come up with ideas to limit all useless meetings as a collective group and bring it up to director level to help increase teams overall velocity. Making clear pints how meetings are effecting code quality and sprint velocity etc just make it seem really bad and get buy in from your coworkers to let you lead the conversation. All the dev on your team with appreciate you and hopefully product teams will leave everyone alone so everyone can focus on implementation.
