/mnt/sdc1/WinePrefixes/Asseto Corsais that drive a linux filesystem
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
Tried proton wine too. Doesnt work too
yes
apparent-cyan•15mo ago
and do you have full ownership of the drive
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
yes
apparent-cyan•15mo ago
hmm that would be the 2 most obvious causes. Unfortunately side loaded games don't give much of a log.
eastern-cyan•15mo ago
this is side loaded, how do you own the game?
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
Was a Windows installation from when I was on Windows
eastern-cyan•15mo ago
what store did you buy it from?
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
Steam
apparent-cyan•15mo ago
then run it with steam
eastern-cyan•15mo ago
have you tried it on steam?
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
Yea, just didn't want to download it fully again due to my wifi needing 8h for a 7gb Game (Portal 2)
eastern-cyan•15mo ago
you don't have to, you can put it in the steam library folders and verify the game files in the download settings
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
okay. then i'll try that
apparent-cyan•15mo ago
and if it is an old windows install, how is the disk formatted in a linux filesystem.
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
copied the game to the drive from NTFS
works with every other game
apparent-cyan•15mo ago
👍 just checking
eastern-cyan•15mo ago
freakin' ntfs
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
yee
I'll just install the game fully from scratch on Steam, cuz i probs am missing 343465 updates
didnt use this PC for ages
apparent-cyan•15mo ago
you can still use it and when you verify steam will update to current
that will probably save time over redowloading if the game is large
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
true
Just saw, the game is linux native
so i might as well
or my steam is displaying it like that
apparent-cyan•15mo ago
you can still use it. steam does delta downloads now so switching between windows and linux versions will only be a small download (usually) since it only downloads the differences between the 2 and for most games that is not that great
xenial-blackOP•15mo ago
Ahh okay. Thanks for your help ^^
sunny-green•15mo ago
it can if the game updates via deltas, sometimes game updates just replace whats there outright (so you effectively are downloading it inits entirety anyway)
really depends on how devs deployed their updates, and what the updates fix as to how much that truely saves
apparent-cyan•15mo ago
yeah it doesn't work will all games and some might package larger assest so the size difference may vary and still be kinda large even if it supports delta.
that was the (usually) and most caveat. Still no harm in trying in this case. Worse case is they will have to download the entire game again but if it works it could save them a lot of time on a slow connection
